Building a team through transfers

Apr 19, 2015, 10:03 PM

While I agree with consensus that you should not become reliant on transfers for talent I do believe that it is a beginning. Take Iowa State for example this is a team that has not been shy about taking transfers. Before there current coach arrived In 2011 this was largely a .500 team. What happened is they began taking transfers and it worked there roster currently has seven players that did not start their college career at Iowa state and the reward can be seen in there record. The most telling result of this strategy is the level they recruit at now look nothing builds a brand like winning and they now consistently can recruit top highshool talent while still sprinkling in the experience of a dynamic graduate transfer while continuing to churn out great results.

It does seem like the route Clemson under Brad is gonna have to take.

I understand your job is to be a sunshine pumper, but facts are fact. Brad has only signed 1 player that could start for any of the elite teams in the acc. Maybe Grantham. That is 4 recruiting and 5 including this one. I am simple pointing out that Brad major weakness as a Clemson coach is recruiting.

Brad is the Tom obrien of basketball recruiting. He just doesn't seem to have a passion for it. Obrien classes were terrible at NC state but always outperformed there overall talent. They would also struggle with programs they should beat because the talent gap was never that great

The proof is in the pudding dude is not a good recruiter. I agree the transfer route seems to be the best way for him to get talent to compete. Brad would be a better NBA coach IMO. I'm sorry I don't have a man crush on him like you do.

You would ##### because we gave you two $50s

Tom O'Brien had zero personality.

Brad Brownell is no nonsense, but is an extremely personable coach.

Apr 19, 2015, 10:43 PM [ in reply to Re: Building a team through transfers ]

get a clue. practically every team in the country is taking transfers and 5th year guys. even duke.its doubtful , for a number of reasons, that CU will ever recruit the same high school guys the unc, duke, UL, UK type programs recruit. we have to take guys a little under the radar, guys who will stay 4 years and be a 21-22 year old man playing against 18 year old phenoms. we have to catch lightening in a bottle once in a while with a buckner or KJ. why don't you come into cat sometimes and exchange ideas instead of just sniping from the board?

I agree he hasn't to this point and I do believe that he should have started to recruit better Im just trying to show that there could be a path to possibly better high school recruiting by establishing winning through the transfer market.

Using Iowa State actually makes Brownell look bad. Hoiberg was never a head coach before taking the job the same year as Brownell. He has taken them to 4 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, while we hope to maybe make it 2 years from now.

Then open up your #### eyes.... our last couple classes have had some good gets.

Robertin and Hudson were both recruited by bigger schools.

You are just showing your ignorance over and over again in these threads.
