Re: Clay Matthews was a walk on bc of who his family was***

he could also have been a walk on because

Jan 4, 2015, 10:42 PM [ in reply to Clay Matthews was a walk on bc of who his family was*** ]

his family is financially stable and he did'nt need a free ride to college?

Re: he could also have been a walk on because

Jan 4, 2015, 11:54 PM

So......sons of NFL guys or rich folks don't get offered rides cause they got $$???? Check your stats. Howie Long's son paid his own way at UVA? Deion Sanders, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Ken Griffy Jr all have kids in school who were recruited by big time schools because of their ability and offered scholarships.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you said it "because of their ability"

Jan 5, 2015, 12:12 AM

Trapp isn't a D1 athlete

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: you said it "because of their ability"

Jan 5, 2015, 12:24 AM

But he's 5'9 false he is 5'7 but he is really fast runs a 4.4 40 also false runs a 4.7 40

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Must be sad

Jan 5, 2015, 8:06 AM

to live your life in a way that only thing that brings you joy is something to blast Clemson (and Dabo) about. Still butthurt cause Clemson didn't ask you who should be head coach? Get over it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you're an underrated player

Jan 5, 2015, 9:48 AM [ in reply to you said it "because of their ability" ]

and your parents can afford to send you to school, then what's wrong with walking on and EARNING a scholarship? That's what Clay Matthews did.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You aren't a D1 coach, so how would U know ?***

Does a greyshirt mean that he's on scholarship? Is there any chance that he can play D-1 football?

Re: New Story: Trapp details reasons for Clemson commitment

Jan 5, 2015, 9:40 AM

Dabo has a great record of picking up lesser players with certain skill sets and turning them into solid contributers. He must see something that we don' t. Same with the Davis boys. No scholarships invovled, so let's just stop with all the crying and sit back and see what happens. GO TIGERS !!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Detail that record please

Jan 5, 2015, 9:49 AM

because the only one I can think of is Adam Humphries.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seckinger was a gray shirt.

Jan 5, 2015, 9:53 AM

He's been pretty solid for us.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And how many 5 stars have not worked out ?

Jan 5, 2015, 9:59 AM

I'm sure there's more, but a "superstar" RB, QB & LB Have all not worked out in the time a 2 star(at best) GS TE has been catching TD's at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Based on a study of 2014 draft picks

Jan 5, 2015, 12:23 PM

"A five-star recruit had a three-in-five chance of getting drafted (16 of 27).
A four-star had a one-in-five chance (77 of 395).
A three-star had a one-in-18 chance (92 of 1,644).
A two-star/unrated recruit had a one-in-34 chance (71 of 2,434). "

http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2014/5/12/5696710/nfl-draft-recruits-five-stars-two-stars

So yeah, several 5 star guys will flame out due to grades, injury, discipline problems, being overrated, etc. However, the chances of success with a 5 star are significantly(3x) higher than even with a 4 star guy. Odds of success with a 2-star or unrated player are extremely steep, which is why most marquee programs either bring them on as walk-ons with a chance to EARN a scholarship or don't bring them on at all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks forgot about him

Jan 5, 2015, 12:25 PM [ in reply to Seckinger was a gray shirt. ]

he's been pretty solid and earned his spot. I think he actually had his grey shirt removed before his first year because there was a spare scholarship for him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he was 6'5" and 200 he had to

Jan 5, 2015, 1:41 PM

to gain weight and is still light for a TE

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This coaching staff has shown it is terrible at developing

Jan 5, 2015, 10:05 AM

players. Vic Beasley comes to mind. They couldn't develop him as a running back, so they settled for making him the best DE in CFB...

Hope this kid shuts up the naysayers.

The coaching staff knows what they're doing, they have my trust. (I know they are sleeping better b/c of that)
