Agreed!!!!! to turn a team that just got 70 points posted on them by West Virginia to #1 defense in 3 years is amazing!! Even with our talent leaving in front seven and couple Dbs I still think with venebles at the helm we Will still hve top 20 d next year.

Love it... he is worth it!!! I also get a kick watching him on the sidelines. Its no wonder the guys play like they do because of his intensity. Go Tigers! Our young Tigers can learn a lot from him. One off the best in the country.

They had all their hopes and dreams pinned on A&M, LSU, or someone hiring away Venables. LOL, Coots your Daddy's Gamecocks are back, and Danny's Tigers! Have fun watching Clemson's upcoming run as you lose to Kentucky!!!
PS- reminding you your golden years yielded you 5th place rings!

How Can Anyone Not Love This Guy?
Jan 2, 2015, 10:09 AM
|
|
He is a commitment means something kind of guy, and I hope he gets a chance to be a HC some day. He will need to tone it down when he gets to that next level, though. I don't see it very becoming of a HC to have to have a "keeper" assigned to him on the sidelines. That said, I love the intensity he exudes. Great defense this past year, and with DW running this offense and 2 great ones coming in in January (I believe that is the case), I think we are off to the races. Kudos BV!!!

I can respect that comment. Find out what it is and pay him plus a few incentives to lock him down here for life. That OB display was the best defense that I have seen in my entire life from this group. I love having a two deep DL.

Find the money. He's the best defensive coordinator in the nation. We won many games this year because of his defense. In order to keep him, we need to pay him the market rate.

Actually we were already paying beyond market value
Jan 3, 2015, 11:00 PM

His $875,000 per year already made him one of the highest paid defensive coordinators in the nation. I want to do everything possible to keep him, and I think that paying him Chad Morris's $1.3 million salary is reasonable.
But if we were to use your logic and pay him fair market value then we wouldn't give him that much. Venables was making $475,000 in 2010 at Oklahoma. We gave him a $400,000 per year raise to come to Clemson. For the 2014 season, Venables was the 6th highest paid DC in the nation. There were 3 guys making over $1.0 million this year (Jeremy Pruitt -$1.0 million, John Chavis-$1.1 million, and Kirby Smart - $1.15 million). I'm not sure exactly what the terms of Venables' new deal are, but any type of raise beyond his previous salary would put him at least in the top 4 highest paid DC in the nation, and if his raise is anything more than $250,000, he will be nearly equal to Kirby Smart as the highest paid DC.
Our football program under Dabo has always paid more than market value for our assistants. When Chad Morris was given his raise to $1.3 million, he became the highest paid OC in the nation, and the 2nd place guy was making less than $1.0 million. As of this year, Morris was still the highest paid assistant in the country.
