For Clemson, early enrollees is better option than JUCO players
Wednesday was the first day that junior college players could sign with four-year schools, and Clemson has never been one of the schools that delves into the JUCO ranks to sign players. Could that change at some point in the near future? Jeff Scott says that the Tigers would rather build through the high school ranks. Full Story » |

JUCO players also have to come in and learn a new system in a quicker amount of time, some may get it...some may not. I'd rather have an early enroll Freshman that can go through all the spring camp and workouts and possibly contribute right away or redshirt and still have that extra year training. 3-4 years is better than 2. JUCO are mainly got teams that need immediate help at a certain position. I think we've been doing just fine the Clemson way.

I disagree. This a vast talent pool that we should be at least looking at. Danny Ford mined this field with a Midas touch. What if we had gone out and recruited an All-American QB? Now we have Cole Stoudt, who the coaching staff is, again, telling us that he is a good QB. Here we go again. He's not a D-1 QB, and this will become painfully obvious early in our bowl game. So we lose the bowl game, and Cole will be gone forever. I think they will pull Cole after the first pick-six, but by then I suspect it will be too late. I really hope I'm wrong, and if so flame the hell out of me.

Yes, Rembert was one of the best LB's ever to play at Clemson. He went on to play in the NFL. He was a JUCO recruit.

Rembert came from Cowley County JC on Kansas. JUCOs are a risk/reward you have to look at several factors with them: 1. Why are they a JUCO, is it discipline, grades, or something else? 2. Can they help the team in the short term? 3. Will they be able to handle the FBS level of competition and off the field pressure?

There was a guy by the name of John Johnston (I think) that played I believe the "bandit" position on defense in the 80's that came in from JC. He was actually a beast.

I don't like depending on JUCOs like Kansas State

but if you can get a lineman or a solid cover corner or something for a year or two as a stopgap then I think you'd be dumb not to go the JUCO route. Our line would've been much better this year if we could've brought in a JUCO OT to either play LT so Battle could play RT, or play RT so Davis could play guard.
