It's a great day to be a Tiger... I just reached

Oct 1, 2014, 3:08 PM

the birthday that qualifies me for my first Social Security check with no limitations on earnings(will check for the direct deposit later) - exactly 44 years and 2 days after surviving Viet Nam injuries(got a second surgery for my October 1 birthday). That means I have tripled my age of that day (22) and have seen so many Tiger victories that I almost didn't get to see. I hope everyone gets bonus days to watch the Tigers play.

I remember calling my ex and describing my experience w/SS.

Oct 1, 2014, 3:13 PM

When I told her I'd forgotten my ID and they were trying to refuse me SS because I couldn't prove I was old enough she burst out laughing. When she calmed down a bit I explained that when I'd torn my shirt open and showed the lady all that gray chest hair I was immediately qualified.

She asked why I didn't I just drop my pants and qualify for disability while I was there.

That's a funny way of putting it. Actually I was slower than slow. I was asleep on a mountain side on the darkest night ever when I was hit by rifle fire. The second bullet hit me as I was trying to crawl (to where ever I don't know) and was on top of another guy , saving him from being hit.

I've read this post several times trying to

Oct 1, 2014, 4:11 PM

appreciate what I just read. I don't think I will ever be able to give these stories their proper amount of appreciation. Hard to explain. Does that make any sense? Sorry if not

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It makes sense to me - sometimes I don't

Oct 1, 2014, 7:27 PM

think it was really me that this happened to. The one thing that does not change, however, is the realization that every day that I have seen the sunrise since that night has been a gift because so many other things happened after being hit that should have taken my life as well as the actual bullets. The M.D. who did surgery on me in the middle of the night even had to donate a pint of his own blood to keep me going. And that was only one of the lesser miracles that day.
