New Story: Stoudt: "I know I've won the job"

Stoudt: "I know I've won the job"

Clemson quarterback Cole Stoudt was calm during Monday's interview session with the media, and he said that he isn't paying any attention to the uproar about freshman Deshaun Watson: he's just preparing for Florida St. Full Story »

...Tally "HO" is a reference to media "PUN"dits that have sold out to eSECpn to keep from giving the CLEMSON football program the full credit it deserves for the way this team is being built by the coaching staff?

Stoudt is full of it..... this kid is as good as Will Proctor's average skills were... If you won the job, your PERFORMANCE would say you won the job, not your MOUTH. Again, he is talking about a his skills versus a TRUE FRESHMEN... ha ha! Stoudt is below average at best... Clemson world, we may be in for a long season if they do not move some changes at QB.. #curseofthefifthyearQB.... lol! from a former player. Football is no longer about emotions..... it's about winning!

Re: New Story: Stoudt: "I know I've won the job"

Sep 16, 2014, 9:16 AM

Just let the game play out and make the judgment calls then. The same people yelling for Watson to play now are the people who don't understand football and yell out of control at their 9 year olds football games like a insane person. Dabo knows what's on the line and I highly doubt he is going to keep a better quarterback on the bench for a senior. Not everyone is a winston who can play right out of HS. The 100 of hours of game film and practice have shown stoudt at this point gives us the best chance. Our focus in the media should be stopping winston. If they put 52 points on the board it doesn't matter who is at quarterback.

Re: New Story: Stoudt: "I know I've won the job"

Sep 16, 2014, 9:28 AM

I think we will probably see a 75-25% split between the two this weekend. They have made it clear that they are going to ease him into the role and not rush it. Is this the best decision? I'm not sold yet but all we can do is wait and see what happens. I think the more important factor this game will be our RB's. We cannot win this game with Howard in there. We have to get the play makers in and feed the hot hands if we want to win. FSU's run defense looks like we something we can exploit. Also, if anyone sitting close to the field doesn't mind dressing up as a crab and heckling winston all game that would probably help too lol.

Watson can play. And Cole is not anywhere near his league. Starting Cole has already cost us one game. Tired of Cole saying lets have fun like this is not serious. Have fun in Pop Warner. This is about big money. Get your act together Cole and whup some semnole butt. Got it?

If I was Stoudt I'd slap Dabo for comparing me to him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well Proctor did beat FSU.

Sep 16, 2014, 9:52 AM

But he also had James Davis and CJ Spiller behind him, a decent (healthy) offensive line, and FSU was not that great that year.

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

Certain fans were sure Proctor should replace Whitehurst

Sep 16, 2014, 11:28 AM [ in reply to Will Proctor was horrible ]

Incredibly, it was quite frequently claimed that "Proctor is a better fit for our offense" by a segment of fans during Charlie's senior season.

Especially when Charlie was a little injured and we dropped a frustrating game over at Ga Tech by a score of 10-9 ...

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Certain fans are idiots then

Sep 16, 2014, 1:28 PM

Neither Proctor nor Harper could hold a candle to Whitehurst

Not trying to enter the debate about who should be playing but have the coaches mentioned why Watson is playing? Is it to get him ready in case Cole goes down? Is there a specific set of plays that Watson runs a little better etc.?

Brandon Streeter once "won the job" over Woody Dantzler

Willie Simmons once "won the job" over Charlie Whitehurst

Cream rises to the top. There is only so long this "won the job in practice" stuff can really hold up, especially if Watson keeps out-playing Stoudt on game-day, as he has to this point. All of the stats; completion percentage 77%-63%, yards per attempt 16.4-7.4 (WOW), TD/Int 4/1-1/1, QB rating 316/127 tilt so heavily to Watson it's not even arguable. He's only played in 7 series and he's led a TD scoring drive on 5 of them!

Also, maybe we can also discuss how those precious qbs mentioned had a proven running game to ease the stress off their shoulders a bit.

Re: New Story: Stoudt: "I know I've won the job"

Sep 16, 2014, 12:06 PM

Credit to Dabo for trying to bolster Stoudt's confidence before a very important outing. No matter what the fans think they know, a QB who believes that he has a very short leash will likely play not to lose instead of playing loose, with a winner's mentality. And Cole will be starting, so every Tiger possession will likely be crucial. I'm impressed by Dabo's message to him, and hope young Mr. Stoudt can do his part in leading Clemson to a huge win this weekend.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So we are Down only 14-7 in GA. I am assuming Stoudt

Sep 16, 2014, 1:37 PM

gave us the best chance to win that game too? So why throw Watson in during a crucial point in the game?

Performance based sport. I am not sure why all of the posts like, "i feel bad for Cole..." WHY?!? He hasn't earned a thing except a couple of years behind Boyd on the bench. Now what? Bow down b/c you are a fifth year senior? I appreciate Cole's confidence, show us on the field on Saturday night!!!! Go CU Tigers!
