Wasn't it just the other day that Dabo described Williams
as inconsistent at this point?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably. But what do you think he REALLY meant by it.

Aug 12, 2014, 1:47 PM

I'm curious to know your take.

I think Dabo usually means just what he says. Inconsistent isn't exactly laudatory. I took it to mean that Williams is not consistently playing at the level he needs to.

Could it be that it could also mean the corners he's matched against are really good and he needs to improve consistently beating them at the LOS, not that he's not making plays or doing great? "Consistency" is quite an open statement to not know exactly what the scenarios were that are being seen as "could get even better" (i.e., replacing Sammy's explosive first step could be all the focus that comment is basing on for all you know)

And I'm pretty sure that that was back in the spring when those words were said anyways

Sometime's you can't take what Dabo says so literal

Aug 12, 2014, 4:12 PM

He said in the spring that Williams was inconsistent. But in the big scheme that doesn't mean very much. Dabo seems to talk down players that he feels will make a big difference or play a significant part during the season, saying things like he is inconsistent or we are waiting for him to make take that extra step to be great. There is always something these players can work on and its almost as if Dabo knows they will see the interview and doesn't want them to get a big head.

Likewise he over hypes guys all the time that really are not going to see much playing time. Just like in the spring he made some comments about how good Daniel Rodriquez looked. But Daniel Rodriquez is not going to be playing in most games.

Williams will be the primary receiver this season and lead the team in catches and yards.

I think the statement was inconsistent attacking the ball at its highest point not waiting to catch it. He said everything else he was doing was great.

Jacoby has had an injury plagued career in the pros but was pretty darn good at Oakland before the injuries.

Nuk might have doubled contract if he stayed another year.

Aug 12, 2014, 4:41 PM

Clearly Bryant could have doubled or tripled his contact if he had stayed.

He could have surely signed for about the same as Nuk.

Charone Peake, the forgotten man. Barring further injury...

Aug 12, 2014, 5:18 PM

...he will show out this season. Also, we have him for two more years (unless he leaves early of course). He'll be a RS Junior this season. Future is so bright at WR!!! Go Tigers!!!

Re: New Story: Continuing the legacy at "Wide Receiver U"

Aug 12, 2014, 6:06 PM

The main thing that has to happen is the offensive line has got to give the QB time to see the routes open up and check down from there. Also, don't forget about the pass to the RB and TE that could lead to positive yardage.

What about Trevion Thompson?

Aug 12, 2014, 6:41 PM

Thought I read some reports where Coach Swinney (or maybe Morris?) said Trevion is doing a good job @ receiver also and is expected to contribute this season???

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What about Trevion Thompson?

Aug 12, 2014, 6:54 PM

Trevion will probably redshirt this season assuming there is not any injuries. At this point he is just trying to learn the play book.
