Gossett defends Leggett

Clemson pitcher Daniel Gossett took time Friday to defend head coach Jack Leggett, who has come under fire for the team's performance over the last few seasons. What does he say about Leggett, and what are his thoughts on next season? Full Story »

Well Mikey the coot chmes in. It is not my job to have any answers. That is drads job. It is my job to support the players and coaches. It doesn't mean I have to agree with everything they do and I surely do not. As long as Jack is here I will support him. To you that want us to lose just because you hate the coach are the ones with the problem.

Good God, man. I'm not saying Jack L. should be fired, but

Posted: Jun 8, 2014 8:41 AM

do you really think his current players are going to say Clemson should move in another direction? Do you think, publicly, Tommy West's players wouldn't have said he should be back, we're close to breaking through, etc.? And I know Leggett has had a lot more success than West, but that's not the point.

I wouldn't go as far as to call Gossett a current player. He's going pro. He can say whatever he wants

Actually, Matt Campbell and Daniel Gossett are both vehemently defending Jack and neither will be here to suffer any consequences next year if they'd said or done any differently. In fact, Campbell is a part of the first group of seniors not to make Omaha. Now, with nothing left to lose, don't you think he'd offer a little hint to his to his true mindset. Does he blame the coaches? Does he feel misled? Does he imply that anything about the team is less than it was when he committed to play here? No, he backs up the coaches unconditionally. And, for all you too oblivious to catch on, Gossett and Campbell reiterate for us once again that these kids read these message boards and are affected by what they read.

The baseball team is a relatively small group that doesn't live in the ivory tower that football or basketball players receive. It isn't 100 football players trained to survive on brute force. It is a finesse game and requires an incredible amount of mental focus. To argue so vociferously and publicly about these players and their coaches is to actively work against the success of Clemson baseball. You are entitled to your opinion and if you really feel like a change is necessary communicate that to the AD, persuade the big money donors you all claim to know (even though a whopping $78,000 was donated earmarked towards our baseball team in the last full budget I can find), and by all means vacate your seats. But the constant insults affect recruiting, affect the performance of the team, and make the experience at the game miserable - none of which are things a real fan should want to happen.

At the games I went to, the anti-Jack crowd was far from the majority. But they are by far the loudest and most aggressive. The guys who used to jeer the refs and opposing players have turned it on our own people. They intimidate anyone to speak up in support of Jack. And, I'm not afraid to argue with you. I just didn't bring my kids to a baseball game so I can argue with some troglodyte about our coaching staff.

So here's where we stand. You've beaten down your own coaches and players as clearly evidence by all their publicly commentary. You've beaten down your fellow fans. But, the administration has not caved to your nonsense. So please, just save it until the end of next season.

Don't put me in the "you've beaten down your own coaches

When he said "they are going to start relaxing" then that

[2]

said all I needed to hear. The "tightness" theme is so embedded into this program that they players feel it whether consciously or subconsciously. It's amazing that that comes out during an interview with a player. Jack has them paralyzed where they can't perform because they can't play loose. You have to be loose to play baseball at a high level and this guy's teams can't do that.

LOL!! His teams have won 1300 games so he must have not had

Posted: Jun 8, 2014 1:50 PM

them "paralyzed" and played "loose" at some point.

He's fooled you with his record too! Show me hardware

If you coach as long as he has then you can run up what looks like a lot of wins against mid- level teams and patsies

If you can't coach you can't run up 1300 wins you moron.

What could Gossett possibly know about how he and most of the other players feel about Leggett? Don't they read TigerNet? All players hate Jack and think he is the worst coach in the history of baseball. Why? Because the same people say so 100 times each on Tigernet.

Gossett gets picked in 2nd round and doesn't rule out coming back for Senior year? Take the money and run hard and fast. You have worked hard to achieve getting to the Majors and the A's have a great pitching program and staff to work with. No guarantee that things will get better coming back for Senior season.

Wonder how Goose felt about the asst. coaches ?***

Easy for him to say this, he wont be around next year

Most likely neither will Crownover. And with Campbell gone too, who's going to be pitching on the weekends? Erwin, Long, and Scmidt...yikes, that's scary.
