New Story: Venables: Guys have to start over

Venables: Guys have to start over

Defensive coordinator Brent Venables didn't mince words Friday night - the Tigers have been improving, but they have to keep that hunger and drive if they want to better in 2014. That includes Stephone Anthony and Vic Beasley. Full Story »

How do you not see a 5 star player

Taking reps in practice? Kind of concerning to be honest

He had a groin injury...

when he finally did start doing some practice reps at the end of the season just prior to the bowl, he was only with the scout team...Venables would have been focusing at that point on his first and second string guys.

Venables is becoming my favorite of all the coaches

His attitude requiring guys to prove themselves game after game, season after season, is the reason our defense has improved so much. I'm not saying that Morris or Swinney coddle players too much, but they do it a lot more than Venables. The way he replaces and rotates players within games is impressive too.

Venables is great coach!

The real question is how long we can keep him at Clemson.

I think he would be a heck of a head coach

Mar 8, 2014, 4:50 PM

miles and miles ahead of Morris when it comes to being the head guy. Shoot, just look at the mentors he's had as head coaches. Snyder, Stoops and Swinney. 3 different guys and 3 different styles.

But offense is where ADs are looking these days.
