Yes, we enjoy watching blowouts of mediocre teams and meltdowns against any team with a pulse.
You're right Dabo, SCU loved watching us last night.

yet those two loses are against two good teams but 9 of the 10 wins are unimpressive. Can't be one of the best teams in the country if you can't win the games that matter the most

You didn't win your conference either, What's the difference? The charity ends after this year anyway. No two-team conference limit.

I believe it was in 1969, and what do you know, it was against the ACC, which by their judgement is very sub-standard. Beating us is their claim to fame, and to many of them that is all that matters. Sadly there are some on here who feel the same way. I like to beat them too, but it is not the end-all to most of us.

You remind me of Clemson when we use to have the three and four lost seasons but use to clammer about beating Florida State or beating South Carolina and the SEC win argument. I will break it down for you. Normally we count who you beat should determine whether or not you go to a BCS bowl game. In this case, you have to ask who were your loses. In Clemson case it is to the #1 and #8 teams in the BCS standings. For South Carolina it is to unranked Georgia and Tennessee. Where you can say our wins don't rank the same because of conference, Clemson beat Georgia; meaning that our best win was against a highly ranked, healthy Georgia team. Now because of your ranking, you will probably end up in a BCS game as an at-large. I don't see how you don't. Then again, the BCS is a "broken system" in many ways. Finally, South Carolina touts the SEC but the conference is owned by Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Florida; the four teams that has won national championships. Win your conference out right, this isn't a discussion. Clemson is lucky to be #2 in their conference and benefits more when Florida State does well.

the Gamecocks lost to the same Georgia team you beat, it can't be both ways. You can't say it was a good win for you and a bad loss for South Carolina.

He thinks we're among "best" for beating ACC weaklings again
Dec 1, 2013, 5:57 PM
|
|
For the last three years that Dabo has achieved 10-win seasons, the ACC has been a dumpster fire (aside from FSU & Clemson). This season Clemson got to 10 wins by beating cupcakes-- except UGA which was a good win. Otherwise this season Clemson beat 3 teams that had "winning" records (BC, UMD, & GT) but even those teams only got to 7-5 thanks to beating a couple of non-con cupcakes.
ACC’s conference SOS Sagarin rankings: 2013: Atlantic #9, Coastal #7. 2012: 7 2011: 7 2010: 4 2009: 4 2008: 3 TB ? DS transition. 2007: 5 2006: 5 2005: 4 2004: 2 2003: 1 2002: 1 2001: 4

Loose the cupcake talk..it's not even a reason. ..MOST team schedules have them, so, then it puts most teams back to semi-equal playing field, unless you happen to be playing the Top 10 of the FCS, and they can be very competitive, and are. Ask those that played Lousiana-Monroe last year. Ask, Florida about playing Georgia Southern. They weren't even in the FCS top. Ask 8-4 SEC VANDERBILT about kicking a field goal to beat 4-win Wake Forest. At this point, Wake would give Florida a run for their money. Ask scar about Tenn. ...any given day... If it's that easy, and you think we are such a mediocre team, why are we #2 behind Alabama, with a record string of wins over unranked opponents? Yeah, I'll take our 10 wins, and enjoy it, while you sit and complain. Enjoy yourself. GO TIGERS!

You cherry picked. I showed ENTIRE conference SOS rankings.

The bottom line is that for the last 3 years, the ACC (especially the Atlantic) has been historically weak. This year, the ACC Atlantic is a dumpster fire except for Clemson and FSU (who creamed us). We beat exactly ONE good team this year, UGA. The only other teams that we beat that even had winning records were BC, UMD, & GT-- all of whom got to "winning" 7-5 records by beating 2 non-con cupcakes.
Dabo thinks Clemson is "one of the best teams in the country" because we beat a bunch of weaklings. I guess it depends how you define "one of the best". BCS has us at #13.

Right on! To think we are the only team, or the only conference to play a weak schedule is to ignore what almost every other team does, as well. Even in the mighty sec there are plenty of poor programs, and some of their teams and schedules are brutal, but some are against pretty mediocre teams, in and out of conference.

So you think Atlantic is on par w/SEC? We're 1-1 vs SEC-E.
Dec 2, 2013, 12:06 PM

Sure, every conference has its relatively weak teams but are you seriously trying to claim that for the last 3 years the ACC has been as strong as the SEC, Big 12, Pac-12, etc? The SOS rankings say that the ACC has been historically weak for the last 3 years and weaker than all of the other big boy conference.
You think we're 10-2 if we play in the SEC? C'mon.

Wow, Razz! That is a pretty big jump from what I said. I don't think the ACC is as great as the sec as a whole, but the sec has some supremely weak teams, too, just like all conferences. Their top 2-4 teams are very good, but their bottom is pretty mediocre, just like the rest of us. To hear the spin doctors tell it, all of them are NC contenders every year. All I'm saying is they have weak links, too, and not just a couple.

This is enlightening.....is it me or does poor years for Clemson seem to coincide with the years when the conference had some of its highest rankings? 2008, 2009 and 2010 in particular.

Well, in fairness, we did change coaches, fire coordinators/coaches and only get to sign 12 players the first full year during that time.

Dabo gets $215k bonus for Chic-Fil-A, but only $56k for BCS
Dec 2, 2013, 12:24 PM

Dabo's contract has a strange incentive structure. He gets a bonus of: * $215k for going to the Chic-Fil-A. * $56k for losing in a BCS bowl + $75k if above NCAA average APR. * $75k for winning a BCS bowl + $100k if above NCAA average APR.

That the acc doesn't and may never is the ability for other teams to rise to the top and challenge for the natty. I.e. Arkansas was #3 in November a few years back. Auburn came out of no where and ran the table, possibly again this year. It seems the power balance shifts somewhat, you could have a team rise to the top right after going 2-10 the season before and they could win or compete for a natty. Do you see they happening in the acc aside from FSU and Clemson?
