Speaker Boehner trying to protect his job over country....
Oct 16, 2013, 8:56 PM

is the accusation I've heard repeatedly over the last couple of weeks.
I've also head that a small minority of "Tea Party Nut Jobs" have held the HOR hostage or whatever stupid term of the day is used.
Can someone explain how these 2 statements can coexist? If it was a small minority of Republicans forcing this deal, how could they also hold the power to remove Boehner from being Speaker?

while the rest of the country hates them which is where the "putting his job over country" rhetoric comes from.
I actually agree with Grover for once in saying the shutdown was a horrible tactic that did more harm to their movement. If anything it shows them to be petty and idiotic. Not a good combination.

The number of "40" tea-party extremists has been thrown around repeatedly.
How are 40 out of 232 Republicans going to control who is elected Speaker?

Because they appear to hold a ton of weight in the GOP?

I don't know. I try not to follow internal politics of either party.
Wasn't there some question as to if Boehner was going to stay as Speaker some months ago? Before this whole shutdown thing was taking place? I've read some things that have suggested Boehner may not want the job anymore because he can't take dealing with the tea party guys anymore. I doubt that's true, but it's all I know.
I don't think I can help you find the answer you seek.

and while you're at it, why don't you explain how federal spending was reduced by $565BB (or whatever number you used) this fiscal year. (i'm guessing you heard someone talking about the deficit being reduced by a similar amount and you just don't understand the difference)

I have said repeatedly that Obama has cut deficit spending, nor did I say this "fiscal year", don't put words in my mouth.
And you can look up the impact of the citizens united ruling and gerrymandering yourself.

"30 on top of the $512 billion Obama has already cut on spending"
And the term "deficit spending" doesn't make any sense in this context.
Spending was not cut by $512BB. Latest figures show that the deficit is going from $1110BB in 2012 to $642BB in 2013. Spending went from $3611BB in 2012 to $3455BB (est) in 2013.
And if you "didn't say fiscal year" over what period do you believe spending was cut by $512BB?
