2 quick thoughts: 1) why not project the stats are cumulative, and 2) TD/INT ratio should be infinite...

Division by 0 is undefined, not infinite. So that means there is no way to describe how good Tajh is!

What does your comment mean? It doesn't make any sense.

The thought was the some stats are per game and some are cumulative (wins, losses, td's, etc...). After only one game, it doesn't give a full picture to show Tajh at 1 win when the average winner has 11. Why not project those stats to see how he compares.

As to the infinite vs undefined comment, I need to read through my old math and engineering books to see how you handle super-large numbers...

Mathematically speaking

Sep 4, 2013, 4:37 PM

(or typing)division by zero is undefined. However, since 1/4 is twice as large as 1/8, and 1/2 is twice as large as 1/4, and 1/1 is twice as large as 1/2, then some may see that the numbers get bigger as the denominator gets smaller. But here is where it gets weird. As the denominator gets smaller than one the value gets very significantly higher. That any value divided by zero is undefined simply means that there is no value large enough to define it. From a statistical standpoint it is an outlier.

Saying that, to put much into any statistical analysis after one game in which Clemson played a top 5 team with those that we are comparing Boyd to played mostly against scrubs would be ridiculous.

But, it is still fun. Go Tigers!!!!

I believe ESPNs "ranking" was in alphabetical order.

Sep 4, 2013, 12:39 PM

The 10 candidates link posted here a couple of weeks ago had Tajh number 1 but it was because he was the first alphabetically. Have they updated it since then?

ESPN rankings are not in alphabetical order. Boyd is the consensus number one pick right now to win.

They must have updated them from the previous week. Thanks.***

As a number cruncher, I'm a big fan of this tracker. +1***

IFa Defensive player is going to win it, shouldn't it be

Sep 4, 2013, 3:33 PM

Spencer Shuey from Clemson University

I mean 18 tackles against the 5th best team in the country.

He wasnt gassed. He didnt take most of the plays off.

He showed up and took care of the business

Any chance you can add Yards/Attempt?

Sep 4, 2013, 9:21 PM

This is one of the best correlated stats for both passing effectiveness and Heisman winners. All but Manziel finished their Heisman seasons at either 1st or 2nd in yards/attempt. If any stat can predict a Heisman winner, it's yards/attempt.
