Hot Rod described him as a "heavy duty" back...His profile has him at 195lbs, wondering if he's over the 200lb mark now?
I'm stoked to have a big back...I love the notion of a few scat backs + a few bruisers on the roster.

He was a pretty good LB in HS as well, and was very physical.

But aren't we talking about THIS year? From what I hear, Tyeshon Dye is injured, Zac Brooks still weighs about 185 (what he weighed in HS), Gallman is 200. So, what power back are we talking about? I like McDowell, but he weighs 195. Maybe, I'm missing something, but we don't have a powet running back. Which means they will continue to risk Tajh, and when he's injured, we go down the tubes. And Clemson doesn't recruit JV players. Brilliant.

And you want to continue to risk the key player on our team. forcing him to function as a power running back? How long can they continue to do this before we lose him to injury? We have incoming linebackers who also stood out as running backs in HS. They weigh 220 plus. Why not give one of these guys a shot at RB? For god's sake, use some imagination. Teams are going to target Tajh, and if we adjust, he will end up injured.

I hope you are right. But, that's not what I hear. And even if he has gained up to 200, is that really a power back who is going to be effective between the tackles, or blocking for Tajh? When I've seen him online, he's looked skinny. By comparison, UGA's lead tailback is now up to 230. Their "speed" back weighs 217, and some consider him the better of the two. My point is this: Our S&C program and player development program seem to be sadly deficient. I know this is going to incur the wrath of the mindless "thought police," but that's the price of honestly expressing one's opinion on this site. I hope we can upset UGA, but I can see them running up and down the field against us, and riddling what is going to be a terrible secondary with their passing attack. I hope I'm wrong. Now,all the rednecks can unload.

Honest question? Why not block face to face on 4th and 16?

The blocking technique he used is a good way to save your body for later in the game...but on 4th and 16th don't you have to give everything you have?

I think that was Mac Lain and Hot Rod that gave Tajh the time to get that ball away. If not for those two, end of game right then.

ground in the guy's way. But it did allow Tajh enough time to get the ball out.
If you want to see a RB who was great at pass pro, watch Emmitt Smith. He would lay the wood to blitzing LB's much larger than him.

Harper wasn't a five star

but he did what we needed him to do in his last year after CJ left. Heck, as a back-up to CJ he had more yards than Rod did as a back-up to Ellington. Harper was also a great receiver.
I do hope that if Dye is ever our starter at RB, he'll have more than the 800 yards rushing that Jamie Harper had his last year. But I see no reason to dog Jamie like he didn't do a lot for us.

Did he make it in the NFL? Two of our recent highly touted (by Dabo)entries into the NFL are "busts." Not terribly encouraging.

Morris' Tulsa QBs averaged 14 carries/gm despite 5 BIG RBs.

I don't think that pounding-RBs are going to have much impact on whether Boyd runs the ball. But having a good running game will help Boyd take less of a pounding in that he may not have to pass as often and take such brutal (often defenseless) hits as a passer. As a runner, I actually don't recall Boyd taking brutal hits as a runner, but he took a lot of scary shots as a passer.
A large part of the reason that Morris runs his QBs (like he did with GJ Kinne at Tulsa) is to gain a "numbers advantage" on the defense, and to keep them guessing. At Tulsa in 2010, Morris had five RBs at his disposal, weighing 245lbs, 235lbs, 218lbs, 205lbs, & 199lbs, but Morris ran his QBs an average of 14 times/game. That's just his style of offense.

So that makes it sensible? Even the announcers in the bowl game kept questioning why we were continuing to risk Boyd, when our RBs were running successfully against LSU. Maybe that makes sense, but not to me. McDowell was averaging over 5 yds. per carry against them. Maybe I'm missing something here.
