PAW drills highlight start of full pads practice

Wednesday's practice was the first with full pads, and the PAW drill set an early tone. Who stood out? What freshman running back opened some eyes? What offensive line combo had success? Full Story »

Dye is going to play a lot this season I believe....

Aug 7, 2013, 6:34 PM

Him and Hot Rod as the one two punch with Dye eventually earning the majority of the carries

One of the biggest Keys for Dye

Aug 7, 2013, 6:44 PM

- holding on to the fb, and pass protection.

if he does that, he'll be ok.

right.

Hot Rod said that pass protection....

Aug 7, 2013, 6:47 PM

was what stood out to him about Dye early in the practices. Hopefully that and ball security transfers to the game because Clemson is in need of that big back

very true, the backs are the last line of defense for BOYD***

NICE Report! If possible, this should be a staple everyday.***

I love that the D got it's butt kicked today

Aug 7, 2013, 6:41 PM

If they had won all the time they might have gotten cocky. However when the second string OL beats your butt and the coaches jump down your throat that's what turns boys into men. This back and forth battle is going to make both lines salty hogs in the trenches and I can't wait for it!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Man I love these drills.

Aug 7, 2013, 6:48 PM

All about pure will and strength, and the O had it today.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep and you can bet the D is going to come back mad

Aug 7, 2013, 6:49 PM

and if they don't we finally have the depth so sit the ones who aren't going to play hard on the bench and put the other guys in.

That's a good way to think about it. It's tough to tell with drills like this, sometimes one team just gets the better of the other. They could come out tomorrow and the defensive guys could throw the O-Line around. I hope they get their behinds handed to them all camp long and come into the Georgia game with a chip on their shoulders. I want that defense to WANT to be the best unit on the team.

Any thumbs need surgery?

Apparently that's how you gauge how hard the practice was

Clemson

Wayne Gallman looks good

Aug 7, 2013, 8:33 PM

Tyshon Dye is getting all the hype for the freshman RBs, it is well deserved. I watched the PAW drill on clemsontigers.com and Gallman looked real good. I think Clemson has a great duo in these two and will hopefully resemble another great duo we had not to long ago. Hopefully we run the W drill some more this season, I liked how it had all levels involved.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gallman looks good, but he's never scored 5 TD's in one game***

Aug 8, 2013, 9:18 PM

Re: Front Page Story: PAW drills highlight start of full pads practice

Aug 7, 2013, 9:12 PM

coming into this season, i really thought that the lack of a tried-and-true, every down kind of back was a question that was not getting asked nearly enough. the more i see, the more i think we're in good hands with hot rod and dye. zac brooks could also be special, especially with his hands, but he's got to hang onto the ball. gallman looks good, just doesn't have quite the boom that dye does. how sweet would it be to show uga they're not the only team with a couple good backs?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I feel this may be a make or break year for Brooks.....

Aug 7, 2013, 9:37 PM

If he doesnt prove himself this year I feel he may transfer or be moved to a different position. I would love to see him at WR with those hands.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have always felt his true fit is at WR.

Aug 7, 2013, 10:25 PM

Hearing about holding him needing to hold onto the ball reminds me of when I played. At times I had issues doing so up the middle when placed at RB, but not at my natural position of WR. No problems on reverses, catching/running, or returning kickoffs/puts. I can't explain it. It never happened any other time and was not because of getting blown up or stripped.

Re: I have always felt his true fit is at WR.

Aug 7, 2013, 10:43 PM

he's too athletic to not use, and he seems like he's worked very hard. with the freshmen showing out, though, you've got to figure he could get passed if he doesn't improve ball security. rule #1 for a running back. i think he just got moved to rb out of necessity after bellamy peaced out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Best I've heard on O Line in a long time.***
