Clowney is a marked man

Mar 6, 2013, 2:20 PM

All this hype?Every player with a chip on his shoulder will want to be the guy to put out Goliath,,,,,,And the awesome SEC [SEND EM CASH] is gonna just beat him up right????I think Battle at OT can hold his own next yr, Provided we stick with the run for more than 1 qtr this time out.

One tackle is not going to handle him

Mar 6, 2013, 4:19 PM

he's too fast for an offensive lineman by himself at the college level.

As some commentators said last year, some NFL tackles would have problems with someone that fast. it takes more than 1 player to hold him down for an entire game- and then of course they can move him around- or it opens up the game for other players to make plays.

All the NFL tackles are watching his film shaking

Mar 6, 2013, 4:38 PM [ in reply to One tackle is not going to handle him ]

He's good but give me a break.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not what I said- nice try

Mar 7, 2013, 8:54 AM

I didn't say anyone was "scared" of him

I said some commentators said last year that even some NFL tackles would have problems with Clowney. They were talking about how fast he was and how his speed is almost impossible for a college tackle (adding that some NFL guys would have problems with it too)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

NO player is held down the entire game by one ohter

Mar 6, 2013, 6:42 PM [ in reply to One tackle is not going to handle him ]

player

Clowney was controled several times last year, Tenn, Mich, LSU, Florida, Clemson until the last quarter

yes he ended up making some plays but one player did a great job on him several times

most of his biggest play have come when no one blocked him, UGA two years ago, Tenn, Michigan, and Clemson games

he's good but He isn't so special that he can't be blocked

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree

Mar 7, 2013, 9:02 AM

1) I haven't said he's so good that no one can control him every play. Not sure you can say that about any player in history if you want to talk the details of every single play in a game.

2) Tennessee did the best job by far on him- and then when Clowney had to make a play- he not only made a big play- he forced a fumble that pretty much won the game.

3) I didn't think Clemson controlled him at all. Clemson's offense - when they even got on the field- didn't go really anything in the entire 2nd half (they only had the ball 19 plays) of the football game. Clowney had a field day sacking Boyd - as his stats (4.5 sacks in the game - 1.5 in the 1st half and 3 in the 2nd) proved.

4) It's not a matter of "not blocking him" - it a matter of not being able to block him. When I look at the highlights of the Clemson- South Carolina game, I don't see Clowney going unblocked. I see him running around players that are trying their best to block him. Here is the evidence of that - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsrBdnLV6Og

5) "he isn't so special that he can't be blocked" - well- that's word games. You could say that about the best defensive players in the NFL history- They "could be blocked" - but actually doing it is harder.

Re: One tackle is not going to handle him

Mar 6, 2013, 6:45 PM

Guy from Tenn and Mich did a pretty good job.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They did a "pretty good job" but of course

Mar 7, 2013, 9:04 AM

Tennessee double teamed him most of the game- and Clowney still made the play that won the game.

and we know Michigan did "pretty good" against him- but we also know Clowney did pretty good too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Stop making posts about this guy.

He is a good player. Get over it.

Re: He broke USCs sack record, not Clemson's sack

G to G you need to go back and check your facts he did break the record for most sacks in CU's Death Valley.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He broke the record for sacks at your stadium

Mar 7, 2013, 9:08 AM [ in reply to He broke USCs sack record, not Clemson's sack ]

by a player in a game

"The 6-6, 256 pound sophomore set the school record for sacks in a game with 4.5.

The sack total was also a Clemson Memorial Stadium record."

"Jadaveon Clowney set a Memorial Stadium record this evening with 4.5 sacks and tackles for loss. He broke the opponent record in both categories. The previous record for tackles for loss was four by Ross Browner of Notre Dame in 1977 and Bruce Smith of Virginia Tech in 1984. Both of those players are in the College Football Hall of Fame."
