What is painted in the endzone/ what does it say? Also, that's a lot of band members, it'd be cool to grow our current numbers by at least 50%...

Go Tigers

IPTAY

I guess they used to have an IPTAY day occasionally, but I'm not really sure.

It says "IPTAY", and that is not just Tiger Band--it's never been that large. Those are likely high school bands from all over the state and neighboring states.

I was there in the student section, usually between the 20-30 yard lines. There were high school bands from all around for band day. They rehearsed that morning on the practice fields that were just across the street north of the stadium.

where African-Americans would gather to watch the games, and, also, where kids would do most of their cardboard sliding. Quite often the kids were more entertaining than the gridiron action, and most of us had big laughs listening to the yelling and watching the slides. This is pretty much how DV looked in my days from 1965 to 1969.

Amen to that...

Fond memories, sliding down that hill on a piece of cardboard as a kid.

The fun part was cutting people's legs out from under them as they tried to walk back up. (or avoiding the same fate).

I love these old historic photos. You can really get a sense for the "valley" in this photo.
