would love to have seen you get his take on the ACC football championship they lost due to their NCAA issues. I've heard several versions on it and I'd love to get his take

LMFAO!!! I guess it's the same for everybody that enters Clemson's athletic program. They will get sliced and diced before acceptance comes. Chad Morris, Brad Brownell, Brent Venables, and now Radakovich will get a taste of the T-Net veg-o-matic until he proves himself to be da bomb.

AD-speak. Answered 12 softballs without saying anything.
Nov 1, 2012, 2:40 PM
|
|
I appreciate Mickey taking the time to do the interview and transcribe it, but what did we learn? Radakovich could have asked me to answer Mickey's questions on Radakovich's behalf and I would have come up with almost the exact same generic, AD-speak non-answers.
I guess journalists can't ask hardball questions because the AD would blacklist them, (and would walk away from the interview after the first hardball question) but to me it would be so ineresting to hear answers to tough questions, like...
1) Considering that option-only offenses haven't been used successfully by top tier college teams since the 1980's, by NFL teams since before that, and condidering that top recruits with NFL aspirations typicaly don't want to play for an (un-NFL-like) option-only team, why did you risk hiring an option-only coach like Paul Johnson, when no other big-league AD has done so for several decades?
2) Paul Johnson’s GT team is 3-13 (.188) vs. FBS teams that have more than one consecutive week to prepare, including an 0-4 bowl record, but PJ is 26-11 (.703) vs FBS that only have 1 week to prepare. That’s a huge discrepency in winning percentage. By comparison, from 2004-2007 GT was 28-20 (0.583) vs. FBS teams that had 1 week to prepare, and 8-10 (0.444) vs FBS teams that had more than 1 week to prepare, which is a much smaller discrepency. Doesn't the record show that PJ’s option-offense is not an offense that lends itself to winning bowl games against a good FBS team, or winning a season opener against a good FBS team, or going undefeated if any of your opponents have bye-week (even teams like MTSU), or for long-term championshp-level success?
3) Chan Gailey's last full recruiting class was ranked #18 by Rivals (and Gailey recruited future NFLers like like Nesbitt, Dwyer, Burnett, Morgan & Bay-bay, with whom PJ had so much success), but Paul Johnson's recruiting classes have ranked in the 40's and GT's player-talent level and winning percentage seems to have dropped as a result. Wasn't it a big risk to hire Paul Johnson, who had not been known as a strong recruiter?
4) Considering the 3 aforementioned issues, wasn't it unecessary to give PJ a $10M buyout? What makes you think that other big-league programs would make PJ a better offer?
5) In retrospect didn't you and Paul Johnson handle the 2009 NCAA violations poorly, since it cost GT an ACC title?
6) Considering the aforementioned issues, why should Clemson fans have confidence that you'll make good coaching hires?
7) Much of resume which has been touted by Clemson involves your leadership regarding facilities upgrades. But considering that Clemson has either recently upgraded or is in the process of upgrading facilities for the big three sports, what are your plans to help Clemson improve in athletics?

Would have been nice to know what his favorite kind of pie is too.
Only things Mickey has gotten somewhat vocal about was fans to not go to Charlotte Tire Bowl in 2010 and that lasted a day before Dabo ordered him into office to recant his words, as well as a push for going to the Big 12.....which would have had some real guts had it been brought up before all the real Big 12 teams had taken off, or been on board for any of teams that jumped ship to join ACC. Where waited too long it really did not make sense to jump as ACC will soon tip the seesaw back into #4/5 ranked conference instead of #7.
Tigernet is great source of tiger information but it has to be PC to be an article or a "opinion". Reality sometimes distorted or regulated. This just in....Radakovich likes Cherry Pie.

To be fair, NONE of the beat media can risk asking hardballs

The local sports media can't afford to ask tough questions because then they'd be denied access, and they'd lose their livelihood. It's not just Mickey or T-Net. It's all of the newspapers in SC, and any member of the press who needs direct access to the coaches and administrators in order to earn a living. I don't ever remember anybody ever asking an HC coach or AD a hardball question. Ever.

Sad isn't it. We don't want just a story. We want the truth about what they really think about the tough questions. And to the point without the song and dance. IMPO, Paul Johnson has destroyed the GT FB program. And when someone runs him off, it will take years to get GT back on the road of recovery. So lets pray that Radakovich never has to hire a Clemson coach. And lets pray he never has to deal with the NCAA in Clemson's behalf. IMPO also, I think that Barker made this hire to bring Clemson sports down a few pegs. It cost big bucks to have a winning program, and Barker would rather see those dollars going into trying to get Clemson in the top 10 of public Universities. JMO!!!

Thursday night games in Clemson
Nov 2, 2012, 8:02 AM

Please no Thursday night games in Clemson!
This would be a disaster in my opinion, too many people (like myself) that do not live within "after work" driving distance of Clemson, but do attend every Saturday game.
The bigger/better question is: What are your thoughts and opinions of having more night games in Death Valley?

Two Hard Questions Not Asked
Nov 3, 2012, 2:02 PM
|
|
I am very disappointed with reporters for the soft ball questions. Two that needed to be asked were:
1. Naionally, this will look like a sideways move. Why are you leaving Georgia Tech? Not, why are you coming to Clemson, what was wrong with Georgia Tech.
2. In two years if Alabama or LSU call, are you out of here?
