If he stays injury free he will get a lot of snaps this year

He doesn't need two straight years without contact. If he wasn't hurt today, he would have gotten a lot of game action in the 3rd and 4th quarters. If he can go next week, he will likely get plenty of snaps in the second half.

I think the coaches want him to get up to a solid second team at LB before the end of this year, and that will get him on the field a lot this season. Then, he will have two years left as a starter after a year of solid game experience. Redshirt this year, he would almost be like a freshman game experience wise in this third year.

He didn't burn another year. He can still get a medical RS since he didn't get one last year. Depending if they think this will linger all year thats probably what they'll do.
