Mickey, just wondering your thinking behind.....

Jul 16, 2012, 11:13 AM

...saying Ellington has a shot at breaking the rushing record? He needs 115 yards per game to do that. I'm no history or sports expert, but can you site ANY running back who averaged that in CFB recently? Maybe it's more common than I think.. because you have now stated that in at least three columns. Is 115 per game realistic?

The only bad thing is that James and Wilson were basically the center of their respective offenses.

It's going to be tough to match those numbers, especially with three new OL starters on a line that struggled run blocking at times last year.

If he hadn't had injuries, he'd easily have the record.

Unless we're throwing to/ running AE more in

yep I think you have hit it. w/o injuries he would have a great shot. now it will take a super year. not out of the question but a big challenge for sure

Assuming Ellington stays healthy...

Jul 16, 2012, 12:02 PM [ in reply to Mickey, just wondering your thinking behind..... ]

...the 115 per game isn't out of reach.

The big things that might keep him from the record are (1) given our skill set at receiver as well as at RB, he'll likely need some big runs each game. The ball will be spread around quite a bit.

and (2) if we managed to build some impressive leads, I'm willing to bet he won't see the fourth quarter in those games. That means AE either needs to roll up big early numbers or big numbers in games that are close.

The RB for Wisconsin who played with Russell Wilson last season....he's coming back this season, I think. Monte Ball...he rushed for over 1,900 yds last season, 137 ypg...

Still not impressed with AE

Jul 16, 2012, 1:21 PM

Glad he can breakaway every now and then, but have never accepted him as an every-down back. Looking forward to seeing some of the younger guys get more touches.

And please, someone get this guy some stickier gloves.

Poor analysis

Jul 16, 2012, 5:09 PM

AE seldom fumbles, always picks up his man or the key guy in pass protection, blocks well, has great vision and can break the game open when healthy. His pass catching skills are marginal but every RB is not going to be CJ running routes.

He is a tremendous RB and if he can't impress you, not sure anyone at Clemson ever will.

No disrespect but you are crazy

Know whats weird....

Jul 16, 2012, 6:44 PM

Raymond Priester is Clemson's all time leading rusher, but very few talk about him as one of the best.
Not saying I disagree, but how does he compare with backs
like...
Terry Allen
James Davis
Kenny Flowers
Ronald Williams
Terrence Flagler
CJ Spiller
and many others.

#21

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you could do that with WRs too....

Jul 16, 2012, 8:37 PM

would you put aaron kelly in a group with perry tutle, tony horne, jacoby ford, terry smith, rod gardener, etc. who am i forgetting? i bet half of kelly's catches were bubble screens. his acc receptions record is bogus. not hating, he could catch but the bc drop still gets to me. catch that ball and we are in the championship game. i am a huge clemson supporter and have been a fan all my life. just calling it like i see it. raymond preister was the workhorse of that offense back in the day. i was young but remember watching him getting handed the ball 30 to 40 times a game. he should have the record. plus i think he had emmitt's little brother blocking for him.

Ranking Clemson Receivers

Jul 16, 2012, 9:27 PM

Granted, potential wise,Sammy Watkins could head the list
very soon. But as of now, I would rank the WRs as follow.

just for fun..

#1-Derrick Hamilton
#2- Rod Gardner
#3-Terry Smith
#4-Gary Cooper
#5-Aaron Kelly
#6-Jacoby Ford
#7-Tony Horne
#8-Kevin Youngblood
#9-Perry Tuttle/A.Currie
#10-Jerry Butler

I know,I know..#9 and #10 won't sit in well w/ some.
