Love this quote from a CBSportsline article today...

May 15, 2006, 11:34 AM

The article is all about NCAA basketball and the changes that took place with players following fired/hired coaches. There is one quote at the end that is a classic:

The changeover at Cincinnati cost an elite Big East point guard. Devan Downey went to South Carolina, where he will contend for NIT championships

Gotta love the jab at USC-East

If you accept the invitation to be a part of the NIT then what is wrong with winning the NIT ? Did Clemson contact Downey after he decided to leave Cincinnati ?

Nothing...unless your team won the NIT the previous year...

May 15, 2006, 12:20 PM

in which case, it means your team made essentially ZERO progress/improvement from one year to the next.

So you would recomend turning down the chance to play more basketball if your team happened to win it once and a chance to win it again ?

Certainly not !!!!

May 15, 2006, 12:25 PM

but that doesn't change the fact that winning the NIT two consecutive years is a rather dubious honor.

It's better than losing in the NIT in back to back years

we can only win what we're given a chance to win.
