Sylvia Hatchell ... not that I care that much, but

Apr 19, 2019, 8:19 PM

... the stated reasons for running her off are ludicrous!

Racially “insensitive” remarks like, “They’ll hang us out to dry.” Seriously?

Expecting players to play when they’re hurt? What?! Players play hurt all the time. There’s a difference between being hurt and being injured. At least there used to be.

UNC will never be great in women’s hoops again. Or at least it will be a long time, just like when we ran Jim Davis off.

Seems like Hatchell is basically a scape goat for the overall UNC athletics fiasco.

And no ... I’m not going to lose much sleep over it, LOL.

Seemed like they were using it as an excuse to retire her. They had been declining as of late. Ignominious end for a legend. Maybe she deserved it, I don’t know, but compared to the cheating scandal, punishment doesn’t fit her crime.

how can you be hurt without an injury?***

Easy ... players know the difference. So do coaches and trainers.

Some will play in a big game with an ACL tear like DW4 while others will milk a strained muscle all season.

She said a bad loss could lead to “nooses” on a team predominantly composed of young black women.

Yea, I think that is racially insensitive given our country’s sad history with lynching.

Seems to be a reasonable move to let her go and the below summary makes total sense to me:

The review, conducted for the university by the law firm Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, “concluded that Hatchell is not viewed as a racist,” the university said, “but her comments and subsequent response caused many in the program to believe she lacked awareness and appreciation for the effect her remarks had on those who heard them.”

Sounds like she was the Fall Gal for a failed AD.

Wasn’t she the only Tar Heel coach who got into any trouble with the NCAA during all the huge scandal surrounding the schools athletic programs?
