It seems to me that this is the catch-22 of the transfer portal...its a way to let other schools know you are interested in transferring.

But, what if no one is really that interested? Or only schools you wouldn't want transfer to?

So, you're stuck trying to get back into the good graces of the program you tried to leave, with no good alternative if they don't put the welcome mat out to take you back (or, keep you, I guess).
