Anybody squeeze oranges anymore ?

Feb 24, 2018, 7:47 AM

Living in Orlando and Jacksonville as a young boy I remember my mom squeezing out about 40 oranges every weekend so there'd be fresh juice for breakfasts .

I tackle the weighty issues up in here .

An OJ juicer like this is part of my family Clemson lore. . .

Feb 24, 2018, 12:54 PM [ in reply to Re: Anybody squeeze oranges anymore ? ]

My late father (left Clemson in 1942 for WWII) and two of his brothers in law decided to catch the train down to the Jan 1, 1949 Gator Bowl against Missouri. All of the three wives were expecting and couldn’t travel in their “condition.” Clemson had a 10-0 season and won, 24-23, under legandary coach Frank Howard. The husband’s decided to buy the wives something “special” and bought an aluminum version on the pictured glass juicer. Well, it may have been the hormones but the wives were, shall we say, less than thrilled. My dad bore the scar on his bald head the rest of his life as witness to my mother’s ire!

Fast forward to the 2012 Orange Bowl where my son (Clemson 2000) and I attended (at least until the middle of the 4th quartet!) in Miami. I brought my wife back an identical aluminum juicer! She was more understanding of continuing the tradition. Plus I knew to bring some additional and more appropriate gifts!

Now my son just needs to attend another Clemson Bowl game in Florida and continue the tradition with his wife!!

Oh yeah I remember that as young lad. Oddly it would be on the weekend. Didn’t have them there fancy “ juicers “ either.

Wow , I was totally unaware of that . That's a shame . Hopefully they'll get it under control in the states . That's the great thing about science , eventually it figures out solutions to most problems .
