About our schedule last year, or this year

Apr 18, 2019, 4:42 PM

When we won the 2016 title, our league was the toughest in the country, hands down. Our division runner-up, FSU won the Orange Bowl over Michigan. Our league won the bowl season by a mile. In 2018, our schedule was down as FSU, Louisville, and others in our league were down. We played the schedule and beat them all. Then people said that we had such a weak schedule, it would probably show in the playoff. We then went on to beat Bama and Notre Dame 30-3. At that point they said Notre Dame wasn't any good. We then Beat Bama 44-16 for a combined playoff score of 74-19. Then they said we won the playoff so easily because we had a weak schedule and were more rested than Bama. Even though Bama beat their SEC opponents worse on average than we beat our ACC opponents.

Ok, Bama had a month between the Georgia game and the playoffs. So they start saying well, their semi game was tougher than ours. They had to play Oklahoma in the Miami heat while we played Notre Dame indoors, even though they had 9 days of rest after the semi. Here's a news bulletin, in 2015 we played Oklahoma in the Miami heat, while they played the easiest semi game ever in Michigan State indoors. Here's another news bulletin, Notre Dame was better and tougher than Bama. That was a better opponent and tougher game.

As for the schedule, based on the final rankings:
Clemson played:
#2 Bama
#5 Notre Dame
#15 Syracuse
#16 Texas AM

Bama played
#1 Clemson
#4 Oklahoma
#7 LSU
#8 Georgia
#16 Tex AM
#25 Miss State

We played 2 top-five teams, 3 in the tip-15 and a total of 4 in the top-25.
Bama played 2 top-five teams, 4 in the tip 15 and a total of 6 in the top-25.

We we have to beat the #1 and #3 teams in the nation on top of two others in the tip-16, that is not a weak schedule. It is not that much different than Bama's ranked teams and Miss State was #25 simply because they were SEC. We can't help it of FSU completely tanked, or South Carolina sucks. South Carolina played an ACC team that couldn't beat our Pitt for a spot in the ACCCG. How'd that work out.

And they keep whining about us playing Pitt in the ACCCG. What about all those years that Bama played and blew out the bad Missouri and Florida teams in the SECCG?

Finally, they need to get it in their heads that once the decision was made to play the championship on the field, then this schedule BS went out the window. It may matter in the selection, but once selection has been made, fasten your chin strap and don't get beat 44-16. If you do then shut the heck up! You're embarrassing yourself to do otherwise. And here's another news bulletin, Clemson has been to 4 playoffs, won two of them completely, and made it to the title game in a third. We have the best playoff winning percentage of any team. Based on that, we will get a huge benefit of the doubt on selection day if we are in the conversation, no matter the schedule. We play a tough out of conference schedule, so if the conference is up with Miami, FSU, GT, VT and such being up, the schedule will be tougher than most. If the conference is down, then it is still a good schedule.
