Deshaun Watson rehab update

by - Assoc. Editor -

Houston Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Wednesday that standout quarterback Deshaun Watson is "ahead of schedule" and might be able to participate in offseason workouts (OTAs) in May.

"He's working hard to get back and I know he's ahead of schedule," O'Brien said via ESPN.com. "I'm hoping ... that he can at least maybe participate in 7-on-7 [drills]. Maybe not team drills, but [maybe] he can do 7-on-7s or one-on-ones and things like that. But we'll see."

Watson hasn't got down on himself during his ACL rehab and is working hard towards the 2018 season.

"He's in there every morning. He's got a smile on his face," O'Brien said. "I think it's one day at a time with him. He's been through it before with the other knee, so I think he has an idea of the rehab process. I think that's big. When you've already gone through it once, whereas if it's the first time, everything’s a little bit new. Now he just knows. He knows his own body and so he's working hard to get back."

In 2017, Watson completed 126 out of 204 passes for 1,699 yards with 19 passing touchdowns and 8 interceptions for a passer rating of 103.0.

Watson also became the first player in NFL history with at least 400 passing yards, 50 rushing yards, and four passing touchdowns in one game according to Elias.
