Zac Brooks RS burned?

Sep 9, 2012, 8:30 AM

I saw that he got in for a few plays yesterday. Did they burn is RS? I am surprised that they played him. Any thoughts?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he didn't play enough to lose red shirt

Sep 9, 2012, 8:39 AM

there is a percentage of plays allowed before the red shirt is considered spent...not sure the number, but it isn't uncommon to see red shirts get 10-15 snaps in the first 2 games against the "sisters of the poor"

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Absolutely incorrect. You play 1 down and you lose your RS!***

Yep, what he's talking about is applying for a medical rs.***

wrong you can play in 3 games and be redshirted***

...medically

No, you are wrong. 1 play blows it.***

You are correct sir. A bunch of folks sem to get messed up by the medical RS vs. non-medical RS.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With our lack of depth at running back I doubt a redshirt...

Sep 9, 2012, 8:44 AM

is in the plans for Zac Brooks. We lose AE after this year, and DJ Howard and Hot Rod are just change of pace backs not starters. Brooks is a guy that has the ability to be a starter, so with losing AE after this season we need him ready for next season to be able to step in and play already having some experience.

Brooks

Sep 9, 2012, 9:00 AM

Dabo and Morris said months ago that brooks would not redshirt. Try said he was too good not to play. Also depth is a question next year. I wouldn't call Howard a change of pace guy he is essentially ellingtons twin. Also McDowell is finally showing signs and hopefully can come on next year also. Brooks is more of a Change of pace guy and weighs about a buck fifty right now.

Brooks weighs 195. And DJ Howard is not Andre Ellington's...

Sep 9, 2012, 9:08 AM

"twin", if he was he would have played a whole lot more last year. And why do you think AE got a majority of the carries against Auburn? DJ Howard is a hard worker and I love the effort he gives, but he is by no means in AE's league.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Howard is only a sophomore

Sep 9, 2012, 9:24 AM

He is on the same path as Ellington but its hard to take snaps away from a senior who came back for another year with the team. When given the chance Howard has been impressive averaging over 5 yards a carry last year with most snaps coming against auburn, UNC and GT. he had 9 attempts for 86 yards last year vs auburn. When he gets his chance I expect him to impress.

Yes he lost his RS, but that was the plan.

Sep 9, 2012, 9:27 AM

They never said he would RS. It's pretty tough to get through an entire season without a RB injury. I'm sure he'll be needed later on this season.

Re: Yes he lost his RS, but that was the plan.

Sep 9, 2012, 9:34 AM

He has burned his RS. Once he played 1 play he burned it unless an injury occurs. Then the coaches can request a medical RS. As long as he hasn't played more than a third of the season.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know, that's what I said. (so confused)***

Re: Zac Brooks RS burned?

Zach didn't show a whole lot yesterday. He struggled to hit the hole and averaged less than 2 yds / carry. He is slight in build and will hopefully get stronger with a good training program. We need some solid depth at RBI.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They burned a few others yesterday ....

Sep 9, 2012, 11:01 AM

coaches know what they are doing ,but as a fan, it is a little frustrating at the end of a season to see where a RS was burned on a few handful of plays
