You think the ACC has a shot at signing ND to a deal?

May 14, 2012, 5:02 AM

"Notre Dame. The last remaining major independent football program. Currently they enjoy a special status within the BCS structure for automatic BCS bowl game consideration if they meet a series of criteria involving ranking and season record. Under various proposals for a four-team BCS playoff, Notre Dame may have a more difficult path to the playoff and associated payout. This may be remediated by Notre Dame placing their football program in a conference with a high RPI (see BCS Playoff RPI)"

So, what is the ACC's RPI? 5? Looks like RIP for the ACC when it comes to ND.

Best Is The Standard

ND averages as many ACC teams annually as they do

May 14, 2012, 8:22 AM

B1G. They play Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State every year from the B1G and that's about it. They generally play 2-4 games annually against a mix of BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Maryland, Miami, UNC, Wake, etc.

If Navy were brought in with ND as a package deal for 16,

May 14, 2012, 8:38 AM

ND would have nearly half their annual conference schedule already as part of their normal routine. With a 9-game ACC schedule, they could keep 2/3 of their B1G opponents and USC. In 2012 for instance they would be replacing OK, BYU and Stanford with maybe MD, Syracuse and Va. Tech, plus Ga. Tech for one of their B1G schools. It's not that big of a stretch, though I don't see ND joining a conference period. The ACC's revenue share plan will never fly with a football school such as ND.

based on what? ND won't take being in the fifth highest paid conference

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree

May 14, 2012, 7:23 AM

they have turned down the Big 10 numerous times. I just cant imagine them to the ACC

Once again an idiotic statement made by chuck Olivers fluffer. You really think if notre dame joined the acc the tv contract would not skyrocket. Unreal the way some of your brains function

I really do not see why ND would choose the ACC

May 14, 2012, 8:21 AM

There really is no reason to go to the ACC. The Big 10 schools are all closer, they already schedule most of them anyway. What could the ACC possibly offer ND that the Big 10 could not do better? This is just a case of the ugly girl dreaming of marrying the captain of the football team. It's a nice dream, but not very likely.

Why would Miami. Why would Fsu why would vpi

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At the time they joined

May 14, 2012, 8:54 AM

ACC revenue was much higher relative to other conferences. Also, they each had a regional connection to the ACC. None of these things are true for ND.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

have you actually seen their schedule?

May 14, 2012, 8:27 AM [ in reply to I really do not see why ND would choose the ACC ]

4 ACC (well, counting Pitt), 3 Big 10, 2 Pac 12, 1 Big 12, and Navy.

Re: I really do not see why ND would choose the ACC

May 14, 2012, 8:42 AM [ in reply to I really do not see why ND would choose the ACC ]

They already play a good number of ACC schools and have a history from the Big East outside of FB with a lot of ACC teams (Miami, VT, Pitt, Syracuse, BC).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whether you can see why or not is irrelevant....

May 14, 2012, 8:52 AM [ in reply to I really do not see why ND would choose the ACC ]

The fact remains that the Notre Dame President and AD have both said that while Notre Dame would like to maintain its football independence, but if Notre Dame joins a conference in all sports (including football), the ACC would be their preference. I'm betting they have thoroughly researched the matter.

There are a few good reasons why ND might choose the ACC over the B1G. Exposure to talent in the states of Florida and Georgia is a big one. Also, most of ND's alumni are on the East Coast, not Midwest.

Re: You think the ACC has a shot at signing ND to a deal?

May 14, 2012, 9:21 AM

Come ND has already came out and said that if the have to join a conference that they want to come to the ACC... The big ten has closed the door on them, Big 12 is a bad idea with the money idea of Texas ( same reason Clemson and FSU should not go) and the big east is not a big enough football conference.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No. Not a chance in hades.***
