Serious: Any chance the ACC will realign

Dec 18, 2012, 2:19 PM

the conference with the new teams coming in to allow FSU and Clemson to be in different divisions? That would sure make the ACCCG more competitive and carry more weight. Thoughts?

VT and Miami in the same division ought to be pretty good

Dec 18, 2012, 2:20 PM

Just a couple of years ago, that division was much better than the Atlantic with VT, GT, UNC, Miami, and UVa all have good teams.

No you can't chase alignment based on who is good now

Dec 18, 2012, 2:30 PM

Just a year ago everyone thought the coastal was one of the best divisions in all of college football because of VT, GT, UNC, and Miami and a rising UVA when they won 8 games.

If you wanted to make it based on geography that makes sense, but certain schools have already voiced they do not want that.

Or better yet, they could be forward thinking and go to a format where the best two teams play each other regardless of divisions. Use the divisions for scheduling, like they currently do, but then seed the teams 1 vs. 2 in the championship game. This year you would have had FSU vs. Clemson. In other years it may have been VT vs GT. But the best two teams play. I think that would blow the doors off other conferences championship games, even the mighty SEC. Just think, last year you would have had Bama vs LSU (instead of the lamb to the slaughter GA) in the SEC championship instead of the lowest rated National Championship Game.

you can't really do that because of SOS issues

Dec 18, 2012, 3:27 PM

two teams in one bad division could end up with a much more favorable schedule than the entire other division.

You dont see LSU and Alabama being split up.***

Screw the ACCCG. I'd rather play better teams more often

Dec 18, 2012, 3:23 PM

during the season, beat them all, then play in the ACCCG against whomever and beat them too.

ACC North:
Boston College
Syracuse
Pittsburg
Louisville
Virginia Tech
Virginia
North Carolina State

ACC South:
North Carolina
Duke
Wake Forest
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Miami

Keep Clemson ans FSU in the same division.

Dec 18, 2012, 3:44 PM

If they realign, it should be north/south. Clemson needs to play in Florida as much as possible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is ridiculous to re-align based on last year's

Dec 18, 2012, 4:10 PM

best teams. You can't just chase a perfect ACCCG.

The Coastal has Miami, VT, GT, Pitt, UNC and UVA. All have the capacity to be strong. This year they just weren't.

I advocate the North/South structure. I believe that is the best way to maintain a large conference, because then you can maintain regional rivalries, play on "north vs. south" rivalries and minimize travel costs. Many argue that schools like the exposure that comes from playing up and down the entire East Coast. I don't put as much value in that, but some do.
