Surely the SEC will prevent the B1G from raiding the South?

The B1G now controls the West Coast, Midwest, and Northeast... adding Clemson, FSU, UNC, Miami would give them a firm footing in the South as well. SEC would be crazy to let that happen IMO

You would think....

But SEC publicly says it wants new states and media markets ala friggin Mizzou. Makes no sense.

ESPN is in a tough spot... the biggest ACC names

(FSU/Clem/Miami) add no value to the SEC current TV market. However, those teams would MASSIVELY effect the B1G's next contract, if they were in the B1G.

They are coming South, and I'm sure that was also dangled in front of OR/UW

You are right on!

Everone keeps talking about the SEC making decisions - they aren't.

This is a Network battle ESPN v FOX/CBS/NBC. Disney/ESPN is cash poor and Disney has a big $$ payout they must make to Comcast, who exercised an option for a buyout, for their share of HULU. It'll be north of $20B and Disney doesn't have the money, hence the talk of spinning off/selling ESPN and/or other properties. FOX smells blood in the water and can bump ESPN off their high-horse as the kingmaker of CFB, but they need the BEST BRANDS available - that's Clemson, FSU, UM. I think they will may it happen.

Make no mistake, the sec moves in the direction espn tells them to.
I’m not sure espn will pay more for states they already have covered. This will open the door for Fox and the B1G.
CFB all day on the other channels might hurt espn more than they think.

How exactly will the SEC prevent the Big 20 from taking the teams they desire?

Mr. Sankey has nothing to worry about. He sees no need to grow. Why?
It's not even close. The gap grows. And grows.

His 16 members hold 16 of the past 20 national football championships. 16 of 20.

During the past 15 years, the Big conference has 1 national title while the SEC has 12.

There are 4 collegiate sports that make money. Football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball are the revenue-drivers.
In the 2022-23 school year alone, the SEC won titles in 3 of those 4 sports. That’s the exact number the Big Ten has in the entire 21st century.

Meanwhile, the SEC is rocking a streak of 4 consecutive football national titles, 4 consecutive baseball national titles and 2 consecutive women’s hoops titles. Dating to the 2000-01 school year, the SEC has 31 national titles in “Big 4” sports compared to 2 for the Big Ten.
That’s right. It’s 31-2.

Results count. Hopes don't.

Wow! When you lay out all the stats like that it really shows how dominate the SEC has been. No other conference is even close.

LOL... womens hoops titles, ha, spoken like a coot!***

You may be into something here. FSU has hired private equity giant JP Morgan to possibly finance their ACC exit.

Is it just me or does anyone else now get the feeling that Clemson and FSU may be in a much better spot than we thought.

The BIG and SEC now may be in a race to get the best available. That is Clemson and FSU. Mind you there does seem to be room for a 3rd super conference. The BIG definitely makes sense to go nationwide. But the SEC may say we need to protect ourselves and take Clemson and FSU out of the equation by adding them.

It does seem in the best interest for Clemson and FSU and maybe even Miami and UNC to present themselves as a package deal.

If I were a commissioner seeing where the sport is at this point in time, I would go bold. Add markers to go nationwide and then work out logistics and schedules after that.
