Yay for being a homeowner.

My garage door got all crapped up somehow. To fix it was going to be $1100, so I decided to just get a new one at $1500. (2 cars wide)
How'd I do? I didn't really shop around, because the guy was very friendly and seemed genuine.

repaired twice in the past few years to the tune of about $500. Sometimes when it's cold it just simply won't work but then it gets to working again when it warms.
What did they tell you was wrong with it? Assuming you replaced the motor and everything?

Oh, it was crapped up. As in torn, metal parts bent, etc.

Just the door is being replaced, and the supports and stuff. The operator is good.

got a new one for $400 for srs. It's like very lightweight aluminum though...not wood and not that sturdy. Looks and feels like something you could cut through in a few min if you wanted to break in though.
$400 may not have included install either, so could have been a lot more.

It could be something that happened gradually

due to it being not high-quality in the first place. And I only noticed it after it started not opening and closing properly.
Or something happened to it that someone is not admitting to...

I have a problem paying people to do what I'm just #### positive I can do myself. I have a knack for fixing stuff until broke beyond repair. That said....GARAGE DOOR SPRINGS WILL KILL YO ####!!!!

But, the long springs (not the ones that wrap around the shaft)....I had one of those break and thank TOM nobody was in the garage when it let loose. It tore #### up. Not only did it bend/warp all the unistrut crap that the door is hung on, but all the innocent bystanders on that side of the garage were deaded.
I replaced the spring, bent and scabbed everything back...and it was as good as new, sortof. Looked like #### though. Pretty much like everything I "fix".
