Bring them a tiny step closer to conference membership? Not having a title game to play is actually starting to hurt it seems

what would bring them a step closer is our new commissioner announcing that the ACC is looking at going to a 9 game conference schedule, and we'd have to start thinking about phasing out the 5 ACC schedule with ND.

We already play too many games against the ACC

What I really mean to say: we already play too many games against schools that are not serious about competing in football. But, "schools that are not serious about competing in football" is just a euphemism for "the ACC".

[tangent] So, no; I am very much not a fan of playing a 9 game conference schedule against in this garbage conference. A game against nearly any team from the SEC, save Vandy, Kentucky (most yrs), and Misery (Mizzo) is better than any ACC game, save FSU--when they eventually get it together. I'd be OK if we never played a game north of Charlotte ever again--and only going that far north b/c of the present conference championship game being hosted there. [/tangent]

And to say taking away games against non-Clemson ACC schools is going to force ND's hand is laughable. No one attends ACC football games outside of a few schools, and I would guess there is only marginally more TV demand for those games. So what would ND really stand to lose?
