And that's the problem. If he makes the tournament this year it will only be the 4th time in 14 years (first year with Purnell's players). That would be only 28% of his career he has been better than the 68th best team in college basketball. And this with the ACC only being a shadow of how good it was when Ellis, Barnes, and Purnell were here. Even if you adjust for automatic qualifiers, he is outside of the top 50 or so in the country 72% of the time.
Is this the success we want for our basketball program? The question is do we want a BB program that only gets to the tournament 3 years out of 10? Whether we get to the tournament or not, we can do better.

You guys can keep referencing the last 14 years all you want to, but in terms of recent success, Brad had a record-setting year last year and has an NCAA Tournament team this year.
We have a very good recruiting class coming in this year.
Players excel in the classroom and represent Clemson well.
Fan interest seems to be increasing, based on last nightās turnout.
The program is in great shape and isnāt close to being āmediocre.ā
Brad isnāt leaving.

Our program is in great shape, we are having a very good year, and we are trending up.
This isnāt rocket surgery.

In this instance I somewhat agree with youā¦ yes we have some disappointing losses and would be in a much better spot but at the same time if you go undefeated with a 1 seed and get bounced in the second or third round itās no diff than goin 22-10 or whatever and doing the sameā¦ point is most coaches wouldnāt have gotten 14 years with the results but here we are and if we make the tourney and win a game or two he should be backā¦ and thatās saying alot coming from me who thought he should have been gone a while back. But the program is trending right but I will say I donāt care if we win out and lose the first round he should be gone ImO. That would be an underachievement with this group.

He may be smart, but we all have blind spots. His was not taking action to fire Brownell last year because he thought we had a "tournament team". And then, we promptly went out and lost in first round of the NIT at home to Morehead State.

Iāve been critical of Brownell but imo we definitely were a tournament team last year and got robbed. A few losses in ooc at the beginning of the season shouldnāt keep you out of the tournament.
Losing to Moorehead st. at home was inexcusable though.

Your opinion was that he should be let go. I was 50/50 on whether he would be fired before we missed the tournament last season. The only thing I had to go on was the performance against the known expectation to make the tournament and we didn't make it.
So every time someone rages about what "should" be I remind myself that we don't know what we don't know.

Neff needs to wake up and get rid of Brownell at the end of the season. He has had 14 years to get it together. Maybe the BOT will step up and say either he goes or you go. That is the only option.

Neff is in his position because he is very smart and understands that there was nothing Brownell or any other coach could have done differently last night. We are very similar to State except yesterday, DJ Horne just another outstanding game. Both teams were 7-6 going into to the game and we lost again by 1 point so does that make us a bad team?
We all want championships in every sport but getting one is really hard. In the past 14 years (the last time the baseball team went to Omaha), the only men's teams that have consistently even been in position have been the football and soccer teams. Should an AD fire every coach that does not make their national tournaments and have a top 4 finish? If a team makes the top 4 then do fans expect a top 2 the next year? We have a good basketball team and the season is not over just because Horne was on fire for his 5th game in a row.

Another straw man argument. We're not talking about every coach in every sport. We're talking Brad Brownell. We haven't even come close to sniffing a national championship in basketball, and haven't even won a conference championship under Brownell. He is a coach who doesn't win championships and makes the tournament 2 years out of 14 with his own players.
Yes, we should fire this coach if we want more for Clemson basketball.

Mediocrity is losing a game in the season. We should be undefeated.
This season goes to show that you bozos don't care about performance this year. You cant get past that brownell underperformed in the first half of his tenure for a multitude of reasons. ANY LOSS IS UNNACCEPTABLE. we were a top 20 seed prior to this game and that isnt close to enough.
Cry more that brownell had his worst 2 seasons because he hd to rely on below average OP leftovers.

When I watch a Clemson football game, I expect the team to win. When the team loses, I start dissecting what happened. When I watch a Clemson basketball game, I hold my breath. Heads have rolled in football and the same needs to happen in basketball. I will let Neff decide whose head that needs to be.
