What’s really disappointing

Dec 31, 2022, 6:29 PM

What’s really disappointing are our fans. Seems 80% have no understanding of football or that 11 wins is elite or the fact that Clemson will not be in the playoffs every year.

When you learn something more about FB other than to just blame the coaches and/ or the QB after losses, then you will be in position to help.

Happy New Year … we have another chance for a good season in 2023, although a return to CFP may not happen.

Blaming the coaches for the outcome of a football season

What can I say, I’ve always been avant garde that way.

Do you consider 2022 to have been a bad season for us?

Say it ain’t so.

I don't consider it a bad season but compared to where most of us thought we would be at the beginning of the year, I'd have to say we fell short of most expectations. I mean we were favored in every game we played and we were pre-season Top 4 so playoffs were a reasonable expectation. With the talent we had and the schedule we had, everything seemed set up for a great run.

Well said Coach Streeter. We’ll let you get back to your strategy that retards or ruins CK. Remember to have him throw a seventy yard bomb on third and one.

I do agree. Some obvious issues that will probably be addressed at some point but nothing said on this board will make it happen. Great to be a Tiger yesterday and today!!

So you are saying that last night was “Best Is Standard”???

Let me help you out.

Cade was clearly the better of the QBs this year.
Dabo had an infatuation with DJ until fans starter seeing the crap we saw all year.
Tyler Grisham is in fact a joke for a Recruiter/WR coach.
Brandon Streeter is not an OC or he would have ran it down Tennessee’s throat.
Micky Conn, Lemanski Hall are HS coaches at best.

If you are telling me those coach’s are better than Jeff Scott or Chad Morris, you sir or maam are smoking a little too much.

Clemson needs Jeff Scott back or our WRs will continue to be terrible.

Austin our Oline coach is getting the players he wants.
The Oline will get better.

Dec 31, 2022, 7:36 PM

Dear Kenyarun,

You instantly lose credibility when after every disappointing game as being the fault of the starting QB (aka DJU for most of the year) and / the coaching staff.

Dabo’s alleged infatuation was clear when witnessing CK2’s season-long problems in making the correct decision, or how to understand the pass blocking scheme so that he could optimize his use of the pocket.

TNet’s multitude of overly obsessed CK2 fans either do not understand or want to learn so that they can understand this.

Our WRs have been mediocre (due to a combination of mediocre talent and slow pace of learning the pass routes) … but to blame this on T.Grisham is asinine.

Cole Turner, who as an unpolished true FR at the start of the year, has learned to be a fine route runner. T.Grisham and the coaching staff recognized talent in this low 3* / high 2* recruit.

M.Conn is a superior DB coach. The career ending shoulder injury to Landen Zanders (slated to be a starting Safety) is hardly M.Conn’s fault. True FR Sherrod Covil, limited thus far because of a not-fully-developed physically body for the Safety position, has nonetheless contributed positively. T.Venables … derided by TNet as being on the team simply because of nepotism … is actually a very good player and major contributor (except during his messed up hamstring times) who keeps improving because of Conn’s coaching.

Enough from me for now as far as discussing our coaching staff and players.

It’s OK to be upset and frustrated after a loss (we all get this way), but to reflexively blame the coaches / and or QB is not smart. Take the time to analyze and understand things instead of indulging yourself via emotional outbursts.

Happy New Year to you … we will have another very good season next year because the foundation of our football organization is very strong.

Re: What’s really disappointing

Jan 1, 2023, 2:47 PM

All the issues are coaching and recruiting… when Jeff Scott was our WR coach we horses who could block and have break away speed.
Or CBs where lost a-lot this year but thats due to being young and coaching.

If Cole Turner was so #### good why in the hell didn’t they put in the extra time and get him out on the field earlier?

The coaches we are talking about will not get us to the CFP…

Look at stats and rankings. Facts don’t lie.

Take it as a compliment.

Dec 31, 2022, 7:06 PM

Bama fans are calling for Saban to retire.

Ohio State fans were saying after they lost to Michigan that Day should be fired.

If UGA goes 10-2 next year and misses the playoffs, UGA fans will be saying Kirby has lost it.

Some fans are never satisfied.

Just win, baby.

Its the lot of coaches to get skewered for losing. Now that they're part of the wealthiest .01% it is entirely appropriate that they are skewered for losing.

Re: What’s really disappointing

All of us Clemson fans need to learn that elite teams are are a privilege … but not an entitlement.

Despite fewer financial resources and less desirable geographical location (I.e., small state with only a small number of high-potential HS prospects), Dabo has built a program that will almost always win 10+ games per year and will reach the CFP quite often.

As long as us Clemson fans don’t kill the golden goose if we fail to make CFP in the next year or three, then we will continue to have truly elite teams on a regular basis.

Happy New Year to you!

Well in this day in time a lot of folks seem entitled to anything and everything.

Hell we got 1/2 the country that votes for politicians that advocate and passifies those that can’t figure out what sex they are. I say that because it’s those same folks that seem to be believe they are entitled.

11 wins is good but ACC is TERRRRRRRRIBLE this year.

So no, it's not elite.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why this false narrative of "the ACC is terrible this year"?

Dec 31, 2022, 8:54 PM

There were 6 different ACC teams ranked at some point in the CFP rankings this year...not some preseason AP fake poll, but in the CFP rankings, which doesn't begin until the 8th or 9th week of the season!

It is true that the ACC had no elite teams this year, but the league was pretty solid from top to bottom...didn't the ACC finish 5-4 in their bowl games this year? The mighty SEC will finish no better than 5-5!

Re: Why this false narrative of "the ACC is terrible this year"?

Jan 1, 2023, 9:40 AM

Wake up, orange glasses people.
We lost to two first year coaches, three teams we were favored to beat, got utterly embarrassed by Notre Dame and Tennessee, and ran trick plays that none of the more successful teams would have considered doing. We lost to teams whose coaches aren’t being paid nearly as much as ours, we struggled to win several games that should have been blowouts and abandoned the running game for long low percentage throws in the games that we lost.
Streeter hasn’t helped any of our quarterbacks since DW and our O and D lines have regressed stunningly. At one point during the Tennessee game I thought CK was going to leave the stadium in an ambulance. Can you even imagine what the score would have been had the starting quarterback played?
Our coaches are hindering the very solid talent that we have and may destroy CK if Streeter’s past history continues.
Can it be fixed? Sure, but with our talent, facilities, highly paid coaches and brand, just winning ACC championships and losing to all the other outside teams just does not equate.

DW and TL could have and probably should have won the heisman. TL was a number 1 pick and Indont care who was coaching DJ he was just not very good.

Sorry I don’t get the lack of development with QB’s.

DJ also attended some high profile QB camps which seemed to be zero help. He should have not been on the field at Clemson after games 3-4. Seems with these NIL deals he may have been contractually secure in his starting position. I do not know the answer to that one. If so that’s pretty shoddy.

Yep. Definitely have been spoiled but I also relate. the best we’ve been ever as a program, and when we lose by making mistakes that go down to fundamentals or coaching you can’t help but be frustrated. Spoiled but rightfully upset

I get your point but I re-watched the Orange Bowl and then I watched those semi-finals and I really am concerned about where we are compared to the way the best teams are playing. And I'm even more concerned that we may not have a good handle on exactly how we are going to address this. I don't think "trusting the process" is going to be quite enough.

I also don't get the sense that Dabo thinks we are that far off. Maybe we aren't and he certainly has earned the stripes to take on the challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing us get back to our championship days and hope the next couple of recruiting cycles bring us the talent we need to help with that.

The CFP Committee got it right**

Jan 1, 2023, 10:15 AM

This years 4 teams were the best 4 teams in college football ( although Bama' played like a 4 1/2 ) - and both games were matched up to a tee. The championship will be another great game,I hope.

Clemson was not up to standards, with the four teams, but neither were over 120 other teams ??? In the coming years with a 12 team format, things should get interesting.Nil,portal,12 team play-off,and all the other things, have changed college football forever.Whether it's good or bad, it is what it is.

TigerNet will never ""CHANGE"" -- there will always be things to argue over, disagree on,and fuss about. Is this not why you have a public forum ???

50 years ago,I never would have sit down and typed these words, didn't even have a computer back then - life was simple or so I thought** If my Tigers won,I got drunk and celebrated !!!! If my Tigers loss,I got drunk and drowned my sorrows!! _________ I quit the booze,31 years ago, now I just thank THE GOOD LORD for another day and I get to pull for the team I love, one more time****____ them CLEMSON TIGERS !!!!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jan 1, 2023, 3:18 PM

Again, 49th in offense, 28th in defense. 3 losses. That is not elite.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep! Can't blame coaches for losses

Jan 1, 2023, 7:41 PM

With that in mind, why did we fire Tommy Bowden? Why did Dabo fire Napier and Steele? And when he fired then, why did he do a national search for their replacements?
