what would you do then?

Nov 20, 2014, 5:27 PM

Okay I've been reading how lots of posters here are tearing up Dabo, Chad, and Cole
my questions are

What would you do with a team that
1) had an unproven freshman QB and a senior QB that was facing Ga. at home on opening day?

2) had an O line that couldn't stay uninjured and develop cohesiveness by having the same guys play?

3) Had your top 2 running backs out with injuries?

4) had your phenom freshman QB hurt for 4 weeks, had an injured sr. QB backing him up that you knew wasn't as good

5) Had a QB go down, had the injured backup play terrible, and had to put in a 4th stringer

my answers are...about exactly what Dabo and Chad have been doing. I probably would even say the same things to the media and fans that they have been saying.

You arm chair second guessers just kill me. You are great at hind sight, and nothing else. None of you goobers would have been able to get the Tigers to where we are now with the hand our coaches have been dealt this year.

And before you quote how they should've been able to do better based on what they are paid, think just a minute, let some air get to your brain, and based on our personnel see if you really would've done what you constantly spew here.

In my opinion get behind the team or be gone with your negativity. The truth is you really don't know squat about running a team!

That's exactly what 22% of us would dew.***

1) had an unproven freshman QB and a senior QB that was facing Ga. at home on opening day?

Depends on what that freshman is capable of. He def. would have played most of the UGA game after that first drive and started there after.

2) had an O line that couldn't stay uninjured and develop cohesiveness by having the same guys play?

Nothing could be done except maybe try more delayed hand offs, quick slants to TE's etc.

3) Had your top 2 running backs out with injuries?

Our top RB was DJ Howard, no? That's what we were told.

4) had your phenom freshman QB hurt for 4 weeks, had an injured sr. QB backing him up that you knew wasn't as good

Given the next guy a chance

5) Had a QB go down, had the injured backup play terrible, and had to put in a 4th stringer

Would have put him in sooner. GT wasn't Cole's first poor performance. He's yet to have a great one.

you are far too young to understand. Go out in this world, earn a living and make something of yourself before you spouting bs on a subject that some of us have had experience. Short answer--get lost and come back when you're not wet behind the ears!

Probably older than you TJames.

I believe until you have to make the coaching moves you don't really know squat

Moatsie: You may be older than me in some ways but not in age or experience. I spent 45 years in business and have watched college football for over 60 years and believe me I've seen it all. Have coached in another sport at a fairly high level and do understand the point about making decisions on the spot. Tough to do but that's what they pay them the big bucks for. Probably been to over 50 stadiums in this great land and can say unequivocally that Death Valley ranks number 1 for a TOTAL college game day experience. Also go to b-ball and baseball so I happen to believe in supporting the Tigers as I like what the school stands for..
Unfortunately from what I've seen on here today, since I am not an alumnus, which apparently means that my contributions in a variety of ways are really not needed or appreciated. I would humbly suggest that some of the people on here spewing that anti-non-alumnus bs need to shut up because their thoughts indicate we are not welcome and if that's the case. I'd be happy to leave.
I'm appalled at some of these posts I've read today on that issue because I would be willing to bet that non-alumni carry their fair load in contributions of all types to help enable Clemson to be the great place it is. Very disappointing but I'll be there on Saturday and next Saturday and thereafter supporting the Tigers but I will no longer say anything here about the Tigers but believe me I have other outlets. I thought Clemson fans were open, suavy and reasonably sophisticated but apparently that is not the case. Good luck toyou.

I agree t james

Nov 21, 2014, 6:07 AM [ in reply to Re: what would you do then? ]

The idea that you have to be an alumnus to be a good Tiger fan is short sighted.
I am an alumnus but have a family full of non alums that are super orange blooded
Tigers. Some of them are even more passionate than me.

If you just looked at my family alone and the amount of donations to Clemson from it, more is given by non-alums than alums. Just because there are more of them.

Tjames don't let the wackos run you off.

Go Tigers

Good post...

Nov 20, 2014, 5:34 PM

....instead of asking insanely stupid and circular questions, you quite simply stated an opinion and supported it with (not really as we're all dealing with opinions here) - facts.

I'm willing to bet, if you sat down and shared a brewsky w/ Dabo and Chad and said, "so...if you had it to do over again...would you start the frosh knowing what you know now?" Quite sure they'd both say 'hell yea'. I'm willing to say they'd even say - they really made a bad judgement in not starting him at FSU as well. No reason to publicly do so and further berate Stoudt, or any player in his position.

Hindsight is 20/20.

The logic was, you don't start a freshman on the road at a top 20 type game when you have what you thought to be a 'solid' SR. Not exactly the craziest theory folks have ever implemented. Cole's had a bad year, I'm sure he'd tell you that himself....I'm sure he feels worse about it as anyone (not making excuses or feel sorry for him, just stating a fact).

Get the 'eff' over yourselves. We'll be able to play the what if game forever when discussing this season.

Dabo has done a lot of good things

Nov 20, 2014, 7:14 PM

and anybody who says otherwise is crazy.

We can debate where we are with personnel and scheme all day, but would probably just have to agree to disagree... hopefully in a civil way.

I just want to see us start winning some of the games that we do not dominate the talent across the board. I don't care how, just turn the corner.

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

Serious question, if we beat SC, would it count?

Nov 20, 2014, 7:33 PM

Considering their record, do you consider them even with us talent-wise?

As far as FSU goes, I don't think we're even with them when it comes to talent. The gap is closing, but we aren't there yet. They haven't had a class outside the top 10 since 2008 according to ESPN. So they've been stocking up and building depth for a long time. Meanwhile, we basically had a self-imposed probation with the 2009 class with 12 players.

Again, the gap is closing, and we have to start beating them. Next year will provide a good opportunity to do that. But I don't think we're on the level yet where we're going to just beat them 4 out of 5 times.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it would be huge... based on two things

Nov 20, 2014, 8:10 PM

1. the streak

2. Spurrier

You can bash SOS all you want, but the guy is an elite coach, and he has owned our staff. That's not a bash, it's just a fact. I think winning this game would be huge, especially for our staff.

I don't understand why people think we are so far behind FSU. We beat them 5 of 7. Are you telling me that, in the years we got Tajh, Sammy, AE, Nuk, Allen, CJ, etc... that they passed us in talent that much?

Re: I think it would be huge... based on two things

Nov 20, 2014, 8:44 PM

Agreed. SOS is a heck of a coach. HOFer. It also helps them that our staff is younger and has less experience.

And not at all. But go back and look at the classes the past 5 or 6 years. Their recruiting has skyrocketed and they've outclassed us in that regard until the past 2 years. That said, we're starting to pull even. In fact, we're ahead of them this year. Soon the talent excuse won't exist anymore, and that time is coming. But there's no denying they've crushed us in that regard over the past few years.

For reference, rankings from 2006 (that's how far it goes)

Nov 20, 2014, 8:57 PM

till now.

2006-
FSU: 6
Clemson: 13

2007-
FSU: 25
Clemson: 18

2008-
Clemson: 2
FSU: 12

So to this point, we've had the edge. This is also the period we were beating them consistently.

2009-
FSU: 8
Clemson: 19

You can see it start to swing here. This was the 12 man class. Good quality, bad depth.

2010-
FSU: 6
Clemson: 19

2011-
FSU: 1
Clemson: 8

2012-
FSU: 2
Clemson: 10

2013-
FSU: 9
Clemson: 13

2014-
FSU: 3
Clemson: 12

2015 (so far)-
FSU: 4
Clemson: 3

So you can see in the early 2000's we had even or better classes for the most part. Then 2009 rolled around and they put a gap in between us. Now we're headed back to even again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's good work and great finds...

Nov 20, 2014, 9:16 PM

I'm not a big recruiting guy, so I don't put a ton of stock in rankings. I do think that when you have a top 15 class, there's not a lot of difference.

Im not denying they've had better classes by rankings... I'm just sayin that, as our division rival, we need to start winning some of them. I think the gap is close enough that we should win a couple of them.

When the rankings look like that (and the same can be said for SCU), coaching is at a premium.

But again... Dabo's done a ton of good.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

Agreed. They've just had a couple years where they beat

Nov 20, 2014, 9:23 PM

us out for some of the top talent. But you can see in the years that they didn't (early 2000's), we were beating them.

With the talent gap closing more and more, it'll be interesting to see if Dabo can do what Tommy did when the teams were even on the recruiting trail, which was beat them. If he can't, there's a problem.

Start Watson, or at least leave him in the UGA game after his first drive and then start him in the FSU game.
