What team (current or future) brings the ACC down the most?

Apr 2, 2013, 10:43 AM

Seeing as how 80% of revenue comes from football, most of my list will consist of teams who suck in football.

A. Boston College
B. Pittsburgh
C. Duke
D. Wake Forrest
E. Other

That was my pick also.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

bball will be an NCAA tourney team in the future

good team....they are on the rise but football is lost

BC beat us TWICE in bball.

we are sliding backwards in most of ours, We are getting like the Coots.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

amazing how far they've fallen from a few years ago

Apr 2, 2013, 11:05 AM [ in reply to Still have to go with BC. No sign of life in any sport*** ]

they were a top 10 football team, a NCAA tournament basketball team, and their baseball team was at least competitive. Now they're awful in all the big sports.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Their hockey team would beg to differ.

Apr 2, 2013, 12:59 PM [ in reply to Still have to go with BC. No sign of life in any sport*** ]

I know hockey isn't a big deal to Clemson folks since we only have a club team (I think) and the closest rink is in Greenville (again, I think), but it is a big deal in the Boston area.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maryland....

Apr 2, 2013, 1:00 PM

And you know what? They're leaving. So we're good.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

closest rink is in Anderson

Apr 2, 2013, 5:22 PM [ in reply to Their hockey team would beg to differ. ]

this area of the state is much more advanced than the midlands of cootlumbia. And who gives a horses #### what they do in Boston?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ACC doesn't sponsor hockey, so it doesn't matter.***

Re: What team (current or future) brings the ACC down the most?

Apr 2, 2013, 10:49 AM

Football is the big money winner but you can't discount the revenue that comes from teams playing well in the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Duke and Pitt play well enough in basketball to expect a Final Four from time to time. 1 final four brings about 10 million to the conference. Which is more than can be said of teams like BC. Even Wake has the ability to make the tournament and earn money for the conference. I just don't see BC being relevant in anything for a long time.

Going with Wake...their basketball has fallen apart

Apr 2, 2013, 10:50 AM

their football has fallen apart.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

their football is never going to be consistently great

Apr 2, 2013, 11:07 AM

but you would think they'd be able to field decent bball and baseball teams, since they've been good at that in the past.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Basketball fell apart after the death of Prosser.

Apr 2, 2013, 3:59 PM [ in reply to Going with Wake...their basketball has fallen apart ]

The program just seems like it went with him.

Football was never really great. They had good seasons, but they were inconsistent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

has to be BC...can't "hang their hat" on either big 2 sport

Apr 2, 2013, 11:00 AM

while wake right now is in the same spot i still give the nod to BC

Pitt has BBall
Duke has BBall

that all being said the teams that bring the ACC down the most are all of them except: VT, Clemson, FSU

Except those above none of the fanbases travel.........let alone fill their own stadium

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

but they kick butt in hockey

Apr 2, 2013, 11:04 AM

too bad that's not an ACC sport, huh.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pitt is actually solid in football, as well

Apr 2, 2013, 11:10 AM [ in reply to has to be BC...can't "hang their hat" on either big 2 sport ]

They've gone to a bowl every year since 2008.

Wake has probably brought in more than UVA over 10 years

Apr 2, 2013, 11:51 AM

UVA has just been horrible in football over those years and not very good in basketball. Wake at least has a BCS and a few NCAA tournament runs in there.

Its probably trending toward UVA and away from Wake at the moment. But over the course of the "money explosion" I'd wager that Wake has had more success and been more beneficial than UVA.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Wake is Just a Tiny School, but

Apr 2, 2013, 4:37 PM

they have a lot of heart and soul. Their coach seems like a real decent guy. BC is free to leave along with Maryland and no one will care.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What team (current or future) brings the ACC down the most?

Apr 2, 2013, 2:24 PM

Probably Wake Forest. The ACC doesn't need four schools in the state of North Carolina, and they have poor fan support.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What team (current or future) brings the ACC down the most?

Apr 2, 2013, 2:33 PM

Just a thought but maybe we are looking at the wrong schools to highlight teams that bring the ACC down. teams at the bottom actually help the perception of the ACC because they provide wins for the upper portion of the league. It is teams like NCST who is in the middle of the ACC that beats teams like FSU and causes them to fall out of favor nationally.

Think about it, the SEC has mastered this with the top teams in the SEC going 30-0 vs the bottom of the SEC. As long as your bad teams are really bad it keeps your top teams from losing games they shouldn't.

WAKE!!! what do they offer? Duke has no FB (on Avg) or BaseB

Apr 2, 2013, 2:46 PM

But are hell in both Mens & Women Basketball & soccer

Trade WF for WV. Make ND join in FB and bring on UConn then we will have an all around conf that can compete with the SEC, BIG10 & 12 and PAC12

Without question

Apr 2, 2013, 3:56 PM

its perennially Wake.....recently BC has been "a hole where all the money went"

This is a highly subjective question.

Let's just be the LEADER (Clemson) in bringing the ACC up, and call it a day!!

ALL IN!!
