What fan are you after a hard loss

May 21, 2013, 8:50 PM

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/62564/the-20-types-of-depressed-sports-fans

I think I've been everything here at one point except 14 and 20. Kinda describes tnet in a nutshell

I'm either 2 or 17. There's no in between.

I pretty much hate watching big games with people unless I'm

at the game. And even then, I'd prefer nobody to talk to me.

Re: #16***

I have been most of these, though I am sure I never hit a wall. I was definitely kept up quite a few nights, none as much as two come to mind for me.
First, the beat down we took from Bama in the kick off classic.
Second, bball up by what 27-30 points against Illinois and lost.
I was so ticked off those nights I could not sleep.

I decided then to be #20. I am ugly enough don't need to miss out on beauty sleep.
I rejoice when the tigers win (my wife and I both watched the Entire Chik-fil-a bowl again until about 2am a night). I love when we win!!!

When they lose I. Am not happy but, I decided after the two episodes mentioned above that I cannot let a bunch of 18-22 years old kids ruin my or more importantly my family's weekends!
(I almost sound like a grown up)

#18: Non-Reaction Fan

May 21, 2013, 9:35 PM

Pretty much perfect description...

This fan barely acknowledges what’s just happened. In fact, you have to study him carefully to find any reaction at all. He might slump slightly, or offer a subtle head shake. There’s a slim chance that he might mumble something indecipherable under his breath.

But that’s it. Whatever chaos is unfolding around him, he won’t acknowledge it. If you didn’t know any better, you’d almost think he was at peace with what he'd just seen. There’s a sense of serenity to him, like a still pond on a windless morning.

Make no mistake: No fan is hurting worse than this one.

Hate to say it, but #9

May 21, 2013, 9:40 PM

This was easy. I always get grief from family for going negative.

9. The Pessimist

This fan spends almost the entire game predicting that something terrible is about to happen. Long before it becomes clear that the game is going south, this fan will annoy everyone by coming up with increasingly negative scenarios that he insists are about to unfold. Eventually, his lamentations become a source of constant background noise, like a dripping faucet.

This will last until, inevitably, one of the other fans will threaten this person with physical violence if he doesn't shut up immediately. It will probably be the “Punches the Wall” guy. Everyone else will nod silently.

Oh, and also #11

11. The Fan Who Keeps Yelling “What Are You Doing?!”

This amateur analyst has exactly one page in his playbook: Furiously gesturing at somebody while yelling “What are you doing?” As the game goes on and the situation becomes more dire, this fan continues to zero in on somebody, anybody, to criticize. By the end of the game, he’s doing it during every play, every replay, and most commercial breaks.

Note that this fan will never answer his own question, because he actually has absolutely no idea what anybody’s doing.

#2...the single F bomb fan

Both #2 and #17 (The Fan Who Isn’t There Because He Only Watches Big Games at Home Alone) if it's a game against USuCk

Re: What fan are you after a hard loss

May 21, 2013, 9:52 PM

Great topic!
Two other types not listed:
The fan (my brother in law) who has no earthly idea what he is talking about (he grew up going to Iowa games all of things, their dang tight ends didn't even know how to,line up) but is convinced he knows more than the coaches!!!! You know the one "they need to run up the middle, why are they doing this? That isn't a late hit.........Doesn't know baby sh!t from apple butter.
The "I know better than the coach" guy is a distant relative to the "put the back up QB in" guy. This guy thinks the coaches don't know who the better player is!!!!!

Sadly, I've found myself being a 4
