We Will Not Leave The ACC

Any decision to leave the ACC, or for that matter to pursue a NC in football will be made by the following people:
Prez. Barker BOT
The AD, coaches, fans, alumni, and Tigernet posters will not make the decision.
The majority of fans who want to leave the ACC for the Big X11, and who attend football games and contribute to IPTAY have little in common with Barker or the BOT. Their priorities are not the same as fans. Especially younger fans and blue collar fans who view football as a form of entertainment. Barker and the BOT view football at Clemson as necessary because it is a necessary part of every college sports program. As long as the football team makes enough money to help sustain other sports, doesn't embarass the Univ., and has a decent season win wise(and that is only important because it keeps the fans fairly happy and keeps them buying tickets)they are more or less content with the program. We as fans want a NC and 12 win seasons. Barker and the BOT are not singing that tune. When these folks get together in a social setting, I doubt that football is the main topic of their conversation. They might possibly entertain the idea of the SEC while at a cocktail party if the conversation is dull, but they'd probably have to get carpet crawling drunk to even talk about going to the Big X11.

The money that has been invested in the football facilities, really all athletic facilities, under Barker is unprecedented. Indoor practice facility being built, West Endzone. Massive renovations (take a look at a picture of Death Valley in the 90s and Death Valley today). This is not a "hey, we're selling out every game...we need to expand" situation like we used to have. Barker could have let these things sit and it would have been just fine.
Who has the highest paid assistant coaching staff in the entire country? Who approved that?

spin on the fact that the President and BOT are for most part wealthy successful people with brains.
Ain't nothing negative about that.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being wealthy and smart. My point is that they don't rub elbows with the average football fan who buys a ticket to a football game and views the team from a different perspective. The football team to them is a small part of the overall picture. I think average fans often think the decision makers have the same outlook on the program and game as they which is not true. I knew that when I posted this that the Barker can do no wrong supporters would have a hissy fit. So be it.

However it's true. I'm not sure they have a frame of reference for how we feel about our Tigers.

coaching staff. I think I can understand the reasoning behind keeping previous coach too long but it's kinda difficult to understand how our administration tolerates the way the ACC caters to the NC schools.
If we had been found guilty of academic fraud do you think the repercussion would have been identical to those the holes suffered? Basketball/football officiation?
I hate this conference enough to leave just not enough to bring harm to Clemson to make that point. Frankly we might be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire with the Big 12 and I know we would be by joining the SEC.

exactly what they did to UNC, nothing, after the NCAA penalites.
I think the officiating is bad at times and the star teams with star coaches get the calls in the ACC, NBA, SEC, Big East, Pac 12 wherever.
I don't hate the conference. I just want to win more.

I think you've forgotten

There were VERY strong, and believable, rumors flying around last year that a majority of Clemson's BOT were ready to jump to the SEC at a moment's notice. If the invitation had come, we would have been gone in a heartbeat. Maybe we would have stuck around long enough to write Mr. Swofford a "we quit" note, Petrino-style.
I don't think the BOT would be quite as enthusiastic about jumping to the Big XII, but I imagine they're fervent in their desire to protect the athletic program. If that means defecting from the ACC, then so be it. They're probably not going to wait around to be left in the dust, especially with the knowledge that FSU is actively shopping around and that GT and Miami could probably be talked into defecting too once the ACC starts to disintegrate.

It's a tough decision, for sure. One I think you would be very happy with after you made it.
