what y'all boys put in your brunswick stew?

Aug 29, 2022, 4:29 PM

mine's always been a hodge podge of whatever I had. Here's what I got in this batch:
- 2# of pulled boston booty, smoked sattidee
- 3 cans diced maters
- 1 can rotel, fire roasted
- butter beans
- peas
- fresh corn
- red taters (shoulda kept these out)
- vidalia onion
- carolina mustard sauce
- vinegar sauce
- dash of tobasco
- worchestchire
- garlic
- chicken broth
- ketchup
- salt / pepper

I forgot I started taking out the taters. Adds too much bulk to it, instead of meat and veggies IMO. Wastes space in the pot so to say. Typically I don't put a lot of heat in my bwk stew.

Gone pair it w/ some cornbread tonight.

What y'all got? What'd I miss? Gone do another batch tomorrow for the freezer.

I don't put peas in mine, and I dew like taters in it.

Gives it a bit more shoulders if ya will.

I also typically do half pulled pork and half chicken in mines.

maybe I normally didn't put peas in mine

Aug 29, 2022, 4:48 PM

I haven't made any in a hot minute b/c I haven't smoked anything since my daughter was born. Probably been at least 18 months since I last made it come to think of it.

we think alike.

as said below, I use frozen hashbrowns for the taters, cause they're pre-diced nice and small. And also use pork + chicken. I think there's some rule that Brunswick Stew, Burgoo, whatever you call it, has to have 2 meats. One of which could be squirrel, rabbit, possum, or such.

That looks good too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

pretty much samesies, except add chicken. And frozen

Aug 29, 2022, 4:43 PM

hashbrown taters, because they'red pre-diced small. And no peas.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah I ended up pulling some taters out

Aug 29, 2022, 4:50 PM

pot was getting too full. think I diced em up too big, or just put too many in there.

pre-cut breakfast hashbrowns is a pro tip
