top-ranked recruit or CWS championship

Jun 18, 2012, 3:12 PM

Which would you rather have? Does anynone besides the coots, their players, and their players' families care about college baseball? We're a football school. And unlike the coots, we're a national championship football program. Dabo is hauling them in. Who cares about baseball; we own the ACC and the state of South Carolina. After Dabo puts a beatdown on the coots, the coots will be calling for Spurrier's head. Their 15 minutes is up.

We shouldn't be settling for one or the other, we should get both. Settling is what 5th place rings are for.

Personally, I could care less about baseball.***

Great argument, I guess? Last year, South Carolina got both....and even if Nkemdiche ultimately stays with CU through NSD, there's no guarantee by the end of his recruiting cycle he'll still be the #1 recruit...

Gamecocks don't have to settle, we went with both in 2011.

In reality

Wow....just wow

Jun 18, 2012, 4:26 PM

Rather have a good recruit or a Championship? If Clemson was winning national championships in baseball, would you still "not care about college baseball?" That is beyond ignorant to say no one cares about it...just ignorant!

I don't understand what makes us closer to a national championship in football when they have beat us like a red-headed step-child over the last 3 seasons. Care to elaborate on that one?

I'll give you "We own the ACC" (dont agree but we are the most recent champions so I'll give you that) but then to say we own the state? I would refer you to the above argument.

I know it's fun to make fun of the dumb #### that comes out of the mouths of USuC fans but, d@mn, your post is just ridiculous

The Truth right now is

Jun 18, 2012, 5:25 PM

that neither has actually happened.

I'd rather have the CWS hardware in the summer because by signing day the recruit could end up elsewhere.

A great recruit may turn out to be a Sammy or a Lattimore but he could go bust.

I remember when college golf sucked so hard it could pull a baseball through a garden hose.

Then the golf team won one of only two NCAA Championships ever for Clemson's athletic department, then golf stopped sucking so hard.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not really comparable. We were proud of our championship

Jun 18, 2012, 5:44 PM

golf teams, but we didn't go around losing our freaking minds over them like SCU fans do over their baseball team.

Re: top-ranked recruit or CWS championship

Jun 18, 2012, 6:33 PM

Clemson baseball has a rich history of success & following the team is a lot of fun. A national championship has been a long time coming and would be tremendous. Furthermore a championship is something tangible.

On the other hand, there are a lot of great recruits out there that are not THE #1 recruit. It is possible to have the #1 recruiting class in the nation and win championships without the #1 recruit.

Seems like a pretty easy choice to me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

CWS championship

Jun 18, 2012, 7:10 PM

Are you serious? Winning a national championship would most certainly be more important

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not a good act of trying to fool yourself...

Jun 18, 2012, 7:39 PM

A CWS championship vs. a player who has yet to play his first down of college football.

A CWS championship brings more exposure than the #1 recruit....winning at the Div 1 level in baseball indirectly promotes the FB program.

Winning attracts winners!

Re: top-ranked recruit or CWS championship

Jun 18, 2012, 7:45 PM

I'd take a national championship in tiddlywinks over a recruit. Winning games is what it is about. The better question is would you rather win such and such game or games in football vs national championship in baseball.

When we sucked in football recrutiting was all we had and I used to think that way. By a long shot winning games is a lot more fun than winning recruits.

Answer is Baseball championship and not even close.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seriously? Championship all the way.

Jun 18, 2012, 8:05 PM

Getting a high profile recruit is fun because of the player's potential for greatness.

Winning a Championship is that potential realized.

Championship all the way.
