Because they are still more than doubling what they are currently getting (6 million) and it’s a better option than being left behind if the SEC/BIG leave or if they were to break away themselves and do their own thing. They know this is their best option.

Sometimes in negotiations you have to call a bluf. No balls from the ACC and B12. The leadership saying “we have no choice” and “it’s better than what we have today” is total ########. Stick together and say no. 25-30 major schools saying no carries weight. And when/if they move along without you, sue the #### out of them and drag it out in the courts. Seems to work in Washington.

It looks to me like they would have a pretty strong anti trust case. The ACC has as many CFP titles and final appearances as the B1G. There is no real reason to justify the B1G receiving much more money and certainly not more automatic bids than the ACC.

The only upside is the ineptitude of ACC leadership in these negotiations could be the key to unlocking the Grant of Rights clause with the ACC.

Plus that deal does more to force them out bc they are left with no other choice bc they have to spend just as much as the SEC and Big teams to be able to compete with them. This should be something that would help Clemson and FSU to leave in the eyes of the courts without them paying a dime, especially with them giving non conference ND a share...

Plus giving ND a way out from having to join a conference to play for the same National championship that all other members of a conference play for. Something about that just doesn't right, they get to share in the same money that was meant for conference members, but the conference don't get a dime of what ND makes by selling their own TV rights that conference members are not allowed to do!!!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Adding ND was really the only way to salvage the league and a TV deal.

But no, let’s get meaningless programs like Cal, Stanford, and SMU.

LOL. Does absolutely nothing for the cash cow and bargaining for new TV money. Great academics, but barely a blip on the radar as far as whats driving realignment. Purely a desperation move.

The ACC has really made fools of themselves. Trying to strong arm schools to stay in a dying conference is not going to work. There will ultimately be a settled payout, and schools like Clemson and FSU, with a TON of leverage, will land in a better spot as college football radically changes.

Trust the admin on this. Just because we’re not making a bunch of noise like FSU doesn’t mean we’re not actively working to get out.

I think the other conferences should come together and start their own playoff system. Let the SEC and BIG-10 have their fling and the illegitimate offspring that comes from it. The rest of the conferences can do it the right way and spread the dollar$ around the right way. It could be like a Power 5 Division I and Power 5 Division II, where Clemson competes in the Division II with the rest. No one should be surprised at this nonsense. This SEC and BIG-10 love affair has been coming together for a while. They can have their glory and the rest can have their glory. When the SEC and BIG-10 start having issues and bickering let them sleep in the bed they made. This arrangement will also almost certainly leave USuC (UofSC) with absolutely no chance of ever making a playoff!!!

The ACC has added virtually nil in bargaining power by adding 3 academic schools. It’s kind of a joke really. Why realign when the teams you’re bringing in do nothing to add negotiating power? Just desperate nonsense really.

Disney (ESPN) stock is at $112, off its high of $176 three years ago. Despite consistantly pumping out social bilge they are allowed to call the shots now and into the future.
For the ACC and Big12 to agree to approximately 50% less to participate in a made for TV sham is absurd.
Depending on ESPN money in the out years is silly. They might not even exist in the new world of media.

Hopefully this will provide a legal opportunity for Clemson to escape its ACC shackles. The ACC has entered into an agreement that puts its members at a competitive disadvantage monetarily. Clemson should be able to seek greener pastures should such an invitation exist. The ACC will need to adopt a performance based distribution of revenues if it wants to retain its dominant teams. That's the only way I can see Clemson remaining on that sinking ship.

The ACC did NOTHING by adding Cal, Stanford, and SMU. Didn’t even move the needle in the national football scene. The move was a desperate one by the clowns running this league. It will be broken up by 2026, and Clemson will be in a new spot or soon destined for one.

Clemson is active behind the scenes. Believe that. We’ve been eerily quiet in public forums, but this is the Clemson way. We are working to get out of here.

Along with that, realignment is far from over. There will be two or four big conferences that will pull away from the NCAA. The ACC has sealed its fate by doing virtually nothing on the football (king) front. We will be moving as realignment to the new world of college football settles in.

Just a matter of time.
