This is a report from Brett McMurphy of ESPN and dated

Dec 5, 2012, 8:23 PM

today, Dec. 5, 2012. To me this says changes are really coming. It also proves the BIgTen and SEC business models probably don't include schools from within the footprint. I hope our admin. is looking at all kinds of plans for some sort of landing spot when the chips begin to fall. There are some high officials quoted in here. This with the remarks by the Pac12 commissioner the other day make it seem like it is just a matter of time.

Here is the report

I'm holding my comments until york reads that article.***

Interesting. 50 mil. cant be enforced but Grant of Rights can be. Very interesting.

Good point***

Maybe, but with a source that works for

Dec 5, 2012, 8:44 PM

a legit news outlet. He has quotes from administrators by name. You can take what I took from it, or you can take nothing at all. I take that the BigTEn and SEC going to 16 is a matter of a rather short period of time, a year, maybe two. If you want to dismiss it as speculation that is not going to amount to anything, that's your choice. Be prepared, I always say.

let's not keep acting like this is inevitable though***

dont believe the crazy Dude tweets and every made-up story that any internet blogger posts. But when a reporter from a sports network has quotes from athletic directors and chancellors, then I tend to believe something is up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes, but those quotes don't say that***

Check out the Pac12 commish

Check out the third paragraph

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8695991/pac-12-commissioner-says-league-unlikely-expand-future

I agree with this guy's take

Holy ****. It doesn't get much bigger than that. It isn't necessarily the things he says about the PAC that are the big deal, it is the things he says about everyone else.

Now, by peer conferences does he mean anyone beyond the Big Ten and SEC?

Quote: He also said he anticipates most rival BCS leagues moving to 16-team "super conferences" at some point, but that alone would not force the Pac-12 to expand.

Does this mean the Texoma 4 are not going to be available? Does that mean they are a peer conference moving to 16 too?

Quote:Scott said. "We've pretty much seen this coming. And last fall, we sat down with our presidents and said, 'It's pretty clear to me that our peer conferences are going to 14 and eventually probably 16, although I don't know when that will happen.' And in a world where there are 16-team conferences, we had a thoughtful discussion on where we want to be.

This is probably the most candid statement you will get from anyone at his level. The fact that he is making such statements truly makes me believe the PAC is not part of any of the expansion going on. He speaks like an outside observer. You see, this isn't new stuff. The people at the top have known for quite some time. There is already a plan in place.

16 teams, four divisions, conference playoffs. It will happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

again, you're speculating way beyond what's being reported

Dec 5, 2012, 9:12 PM

He was probably including the ACC among the "peer conferences," but we don't know that since he didn't specify. At any rate, he does say the PAC is done expanding for the foreseeable future. How you get from that to the ACC being further raided, I don't know.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think, based on the McMurphy report, not so much the

Dec 5, 2012, 9:28 PM

Pac12 commish comments, that the BigTen and SEC are going to 16. I believe that will set the stage for 4 conferences of 16 and all others will, at worst, be on the outside looking in or simply making 10 to 20 million dollars a year less.

If you don't want to take anything from it, so be it. I hope those looking out for Clemson will be prepared when the time comes. As we have seen with Maryland, Pitt, Syracuse, when the time comes, it comes fast. By the time we've heard anything more substantial than this, it is over. I think the powers that be have known for some time that this is coming. If you want to blow all this smoke off as speculation, that is your choice.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You will not see me post links to complete

Dec 5, 2012, 9:37 PM [ in reply to again, you're speculating way beyond what's being reported ]

fabrication such as the Dude, If I post a link it will be from a legit reporter, with quotes from named administrators. That doesn't mean the reporter, or the administrators will turn out to be right, but I think they are worth posting and linking.

I understand your point that maybe I am taking too much from these comments, but time will tell.

Dec 5, 2012, 9:37 PM

I still don't understand how Swofford has let this happen to the ACC. He's been at the helm forever, i would think longer than any of these other conference commissioners, so you would think with that much time on the job he could have seen some of this coming. Instead, he seems to have made decisions over the years that were basketball first. How did he not see that football tv money was the nut of it all?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You know ESPN flat out told him during the last

Dec 5, 2012, 9:41 PM

negotiations that football accounted for 80% of the money in the contract. When this was made clear to the ACC, Clemson and FSU suddenly became much more powerful in closed door meetings with the conference. I am like you in that I just wonder if this was the first time he ever had a clue that football was the dominant factor in the tv contracts.

Dec 5, 2012, 9:52 PM [ in reply to Re: This is a report from Brett McMurphy of ESPN and dated ]

Let me say that I think we will leave the ACC at some point. We are going to be at a bigger and bigger disadvantage with the SEC. We just can't compete with the tv contract. We are also at a growing recruiting disadvantage. I am no Swofford fan but don't think there is much he can do. There just are no football schools that want to come to the ACC. Now they are in a box that they will not get out of.
