This is almost a family fight with Alabama

I don't know if others felt the same but back in the 70s Alabama was the team that I hoped Clemson would become. Loved seeing the "Bear" with his hat on or up in his watchtower overseeing practice. On top of that all the players that went on to make the 70's a great decade(maybe the best) for the NFL. Joe Namath and Ken Stabler for starters . My brother loved "Broadway "Joe and always talked about Superbowl 3.And back then we would talk about Clemson's future and how Bama provided the model of what a football team looked like. Most importantly they gave us our 3 best coaches.
Frank Howard- Born Barlow Bend Ala , member of the 1930 Rose Bowl team
Danny Ford- Born Gadsden Ala-Co Captain of the 1969 team that played at DV in 1969
Dabo Swinney- Born Pelham Ala- member of 1992 National Championship Team

Bammers are used to keeping it in the family.

I'm just glad Dabo never worked under Saban. I think one of the major deterrents in hiring Sabanic disciples should be their 0-9 record vs Daddy.

maybe no probation either but that's another story. lol
As for Hootie some are still upset that he wouldn't let the boys run down the hill! Red Parker got that restarted.

John Heisman says Hi......

while acknowledging the debt Clemson owes the football program at 'Bama, it nearly infuriates me to read these inbred tide fans taking for granted that Coach Swinney will dutifullly come when called. The pull of ones' alma mater is strong, but its not necessarily the ultimate.
Being at Clemson and outside the SEC, Coach Swinney has had an opportunity to witness the arrogance and entitlement those fans claim as birthright and he's also seen how the media--specifically ESPN--overblows the talent and play of the teams comprising the SEC. Perhaps being an observer from the outside has given him a distaste for the SEC attitude and hopefully, by the time that job beckons, what he's built at Clemson will be impossible to leave.
BTW---Clemson owes an equal debt to that other school in Alabama--the one down in the SE corner of the state

Did Walter Riggs get Heisman to Clemson?

I had completely forgotten that Heisman had coached at Auburn. He had Clemson rolling while he was there. It took Clemson years to get over the blow of losing him to Tech.

Frank built a solid base Hootie gave us the Tiger Paw. Pell had a good philosophy: recruit the best players within 150 miles of campus (included large part of Georgia and NC)and hire great assistants. Ford perfected it! Tommy Bowden finally beat daddy. Now is the time for Dabo to take the next step!

It's pretty epic! Destiny! Way back in 1978 after Clemson beat Ohio State in the Gator Bowl I remember thinking that maybe soon Clemson would play for the national title and that it would be best if they played the old lion Alabama.
