Car Insurance Hades

Someone hit my car in the parking lot two weekends ago. There were witnesses who stopped the driver from pulling away, and even have a police report.
Dealing with their insurance (Progressive) is a major PITA. 1. Their insurance says they can't get in touch with driver to confirm, then 2. Driver denies they were involved (even though I sent Progressive the pics and police report) 3. Progressive tells ME to call around to body shops and get quotes
4. First collision center says they work with Progressive, but the insurance company needs to submit my information before I can come in for an estimate. Then, they will 'tear-down' the car to look for all possible damage, and take possession of the car for up to 3-months as parts for 2024 vehicles aren't available.
5. Second collision center doesn't want to give an individual estimate as the insurance company won't honor it anyway. They confirm 2024 parts aren't available anywhere, and it could be months before they can work on it. First available opening to even attempt an estimate is mid-April
@ Insurance Lungers: How do I negotiate with insurance company to write me a check for repair costs + car rental + diminished value? Any idea on costs to replace a bumper and repair/replace a rear quarter-panel?

Right. But I also want $5-10k from insurance to cover the costs if I do decide a professional is needed.

They have the right to "investigate" meaning they can delay

while they attempt to talk to their client, while they "investigate" their client's claims of innocence, etc. Obed's right, if you have collision, pay the deductible and get your company to handle. Make sure they get your deductible back at the end when they square up with Progressive.

My experience, I’ve had the easiest time running it through my own insurance and then letting them deal with settling up with Progressive.
Someone once noted that when you buy insurance, the best thing you are getting is a bunch of high priced lawyers protecting their company’s money on your behalf. It’s the best legal representation you’ll ever get for a few hundred dollars a month.

Unfortunately for a lot of people, they don't want to get sued, but their insurance company incentivizes it based on the way they negotiate.

State Farm is a month behind in issuing a new insurance policy and card. I'm still driving around with a temp policy that they keep extending.

Why do they want you to do their job?

Isn't it their job to come inspect the vehicle damage and create an estimate?
Estimated cost of repairs: $4,869
3 MO possession / rental car: lol, that ain't happening. That would cost like $10K?

Parking lot security ran her down as she started to pull away. Since she was onsite when police arrived, no foul.
