And when all the smoke clears, and the NCAA Is finished, there will be some huge NCAA sanctions against.... Arkansas St. Or maybe Western Michigan... Jerry Tarkanian was right for those that remember his quote. After all, Didn't the Tarholes prove that just last week?

The NCAA is in tough situation these days because everyone is cheating. There's too much money involved to risk bringing it all down.

LOL we had a good run for a couple of years . You Coots are so dang stupid I mean come on its sad your glory years was a 2 year run. Well I guess beating the Tigers 5 years in a row is the biggest accomplishment you will ever know. Do you realize that nation wide SC is a joke and always will be.

I will give '09 his due. Carolina had a string of REALLY formidable teams who could - and did - literally play with any team in the nation for about 2-3 years, and they were pretty durn competitive for the 3-4 years before that and a rough "out" for anybody.
The problem was, they didn't convert that to titles, or even significant bowl wins. They still have zero conference titles, and zero BCS Bowl wins. It kind of amounted to that 11-1 season they had...a lot of thunder and fury, ultimately winning absolutely nothing of any consequence despite how good they really were. (And they were durn good, I'll admit it.)
At some point, though, you've got to convert the chances you get. Carolina has been...singularly unable to do that. Which has kind of diminished our rivalry with them, while everybody sneaks an eye up to watch Auburn/Alabama. Because it, you know, matters, nationally.
A strong Carolina would actually benefit Clemson in terms of national attention. Having them muck around at the level of Wake Forest does not help us.
JMHO.
Am I the only Clemson fan who's a little disappointed Carolina didn't win more when they were actually really good under Spurrier? Be a much better series, with a lot more hype.

Wish you were right. The NCAA is nothing anymore. They will do nothing but a verbal reprimand and allow Ole Miss to penalize itself. The NCAA is only a shell of its former self. UNC is the perfect example of their weakness.

Disagree completely. I think they absolutely hammer Ole Miss to make a show of strength. They won't have to void any championships.
Hammering UNC Men's Basketball would have put the NCAA in exactly the same position as the Tour de France a few years back with Lance Armstrong...okay, if you void all those National Titles, are you telling me, all those years that UNC cheated to win a nattie are now just null and void and might as well have not even been played? The Tour is now missing eight of its last 12 years or so, and they literally lost half their fans in the process. It's still a big deal in France; the rest of the world largely decided the sport was bent beyond repair and tuned out.
The NCAA knows the same thing could happen if they start voiding national titles or hit UNC too hard, so they'll do anything they can to avoid it. They simply can't paint decades of basketball under the brush of suspicion.
Ole Miss has no such protection. They're exactly like SMU was - a smaller, more aggressive school that is flat-out flouting rules and flagrently buying players in full view of the world, and even other SEC coaches talk openly about how bent Ole Miss is. Brett Bielema said on live TV: "some of the things Ole Miss does in recruiting are...shocking." That was last year. It's not exactly a secret to anyone how Ole Miss has been operating.
The NCAA can hammer Ole Miss without worrying about voiding any titles, in any sport that matters. Considering how hard the NCAA hit Southern Cal for all the hijinks they pulled under Pete Carroll - which did involve vacating their 2004 BCS title - I think it's safe to assume Ole Miss will likely get at least what Southern Cal got, and then some.

dead on...

|

I wouldn't be shocked to see them get hammered. Same reason they came down so hard on us in the 80s... we weren't doing anything that wasn't going on everywhere... but we were EXPENDABLE. We weren't a name brand with a huge national following that would cost them mega-millions. They have to watch that wallet when they go after a Texas, Bama, Sou Cal, Ohio St, FSU, Notre Dame, etc. Same reason they could kill off SMU, although everybody knew the exact same crap was going on at almost all the SWC & SEC schools.
####, that's why they drug their feet for so long on the Sou Cal thing a few years ago. They tried hard to just let it go, and would have, except for a couple of Yahoo Sports writers who kept digging and digging and coming up with more dirt. NOT because the NCAA swooped in and looked under every rock with a microscope, which they would've done to any other "non-elite" program. Finally, there was so much info available and it was so blatant they had no choice but to step in... but they hated every minute of it.
Same reason they looked the other way about Auburn and Scam Newton. They go around nit-picking about an extra meal here and a free cap there... and then do absolutely nothing when they have slam dunk evidence that a player is being shopped for $250K. But the NCAA needed Auburn for the nat'l title run and TV ratings, and they needed that smiling face of Scam for the Heisman hype, NFL Draft, etc. And some NFL team was gonna make him the face of the franchise. All things considered, there are literally 100s of millions of dollars at stake, and a lot of careers. No way they bring him down...
Yes, and the same reason the Tar Holes will ultimately skate. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
But Ole Miss? They just might make an example out of them. They're expendable.....

While yourself and Quozzel may be onto something, that doesn't make it any more digestible. It's appalling, IMHO, even more so that the sequence of events you both outline is, in fact, dead on.

Ole Miss doesn't seem like the type that's going to go down without bringing every other school down with them.

No problem if the Ole Miss booster club puts a few of the NCAA execs on their payroll like the Rams Club evidently did.
