The new helmet rule

I understand why it was put in place but now the defense is using it to get key players out of the game in crucial situations. Here are a couple of things the officials could do:

1. Check the helmet fit for everyone before game time to make sure that the helmet is secure. 15 yard penalty if someone has a strap hanging.

2. Review the play when a helmet comes off. If it came off because of contact the player has to leave the game. If it came off because another player ripped it off then O gets automatic first down at the spot. 15 yard penalty and loss of down if O rips it off D.

Any other ideas other than getting rid of the rule?

these are OK but some of this is already in place.. the gutless officials Sat night just would not let Tb stay in the game when Auburn ripped it off and also refused to penalize them..if the rule is enforced as intended it is ok

NCAA makes the rules and they sometimes screw up big time. Don't expect any intelligent moves by the big boys.

I don't want our guys on the field doing this crap (even though, I get that it might be unwise for our players to refuse to adapt to the game as the rules currently stand and are enforced.)

Only apply the rule when it fall off from a normal tackle

when a player gets gang tackled or gets under a pile anything can happen but if a player has a helmet fall off from you average open field tackle I can see the point.
