Serious question for Shorty is serious.

Jan 10, 2017, 10:07 AM

Why was the game winning TD by Renfrow not a penalty on Scott?

Some criticized the officiating, but I thought they let the teams play as much as possible. The replay officials were a different story, they clearly thought they worked for Buffalo Wild Wings.

Makes sense, but it appears that it also could have been

called and was really a judgement call.

By pulling the pick block down

Jan 10, 2017, 10:12 AM

Bama actually made the play legal.

If the pick block kept his feet it could have easily been called.

The pick by Leggett earlier in the game was definitely a penalty even though he acted like he was trying to catch the ball. Just not called.

So we ran the play knowing that we could be flagged?

Jan 10, 2017, 10:17 AM

Smart call under the circumstances. Taking a penalty wouldn't have hurt the chances at a FG.

Shorty can tell you how many yards it would have been, but

Jan 10, 2017, 10:20 AM

the options were

1) pick play for possible touchdown or possible penalty.

2) if the penalty occurs then it is a 7 to at most 17 yard FG with 1 second left to go into OT.

Outcomes:

1) TD for the win

2) FG for the tie and OT

3) Missed FG for the loss.

66.7% chance of something good happening is good odds.

Not 100% sure of the NCAA rule for that.

In HS we are lucky if the clock starts and stops when it is suppose to. Good luck getting the clock guy to run off 10 seconds.

Another question for Sharty.....

Jan 10, 2017, 10:17 AM

would it have taken the complete decapitation of one of our players for targeting to have been called last night?

The much smarter play in that situation would have been for

Jan 10, 2017, 10:23 AM

Artavis to go for a head shot against the defender to knock him out of coverage, because there was ZERO chance that was going to get flagged. Thankfully it still worked out despite passing up this better option.

Scott played the rub route perfectly. He was running...

Jan 10, 2017, 10:56 AM

a legal route...got in position to initiate contact, but the bama defender actually pulled him down. Many people are saying Scott dove at his legs, but that isn't the case at all.

DB covering Renfrow went over top of rub instead of underneath and it was an easy play.
