So now that the universe is somewhat better
Dec 5, 2022, 8:01 AM

|
Since we won another ACC title and the QB situation is resolved for now, I ask this: Was that loss to SC the most devastating loss of the Dabo era? I posit that it is, even more so than West Virgnia.
-A loss to our grossly inferior rival who is starting to think they're turning a corner, especially now. Eight in a row, psychologically, damages their entire program and fanbase. -Keeps us out of the playoffs since everything happened this weekend that we needed to have happen had we beat SC. I know that we probably lose to UGA even if we make it, but, well, we'd at least be there and have a shot. -Reveals that we could have some hubris problems on the staff, particularly with one of our coordinators. -We're going to be reminded by the Dirt Peckers for years about how they kept us out of the CFP. But we also seemed invincible vs. them the last few years. Now, in both of our minds, we know that's not the case going forward. -With West Virginia, as embarrassing as it was, we only lost a bowl game. The result also brought us Brent Venables and positive changes to the mentality of the program. I argue it was one of the best things to happen to us.
I welcome nominations for losses that were worse. If just to make me feel better.
Either way, glad the change was finally made Saturday night and we can look forward.

Yeah that SC was the worst in my opinion due to where this program is now. It was a blunder playing DJ.

the only positive to that loss to the coots, and it's a weak

positive, is it gave them enough hope to stay in the rivalry. it has gotten to be such a domination that many of them were starting to talk of ending it.

I stopped caring about coots decades ago.

No, the West Virginia loss was much worse, for several reasons. We were looking into an abyss with that loss. This time, we are looking at an improved team next year, and this year wasn't bad, those losses notwithstanding.
Nope, I disagree, and stopped caring about the chickens long ago.

The 5th loss to Scar really got me
Dec 5, 2022, 8:16 AM

we should have won that game, Dabo knew it and Spurrier knew it. I had to watch a movie after the game to get relaxed I was so mad.
After this year, we got beat and played like crap, but I assumed CK would not have done much better until Saturday night when we all found out different.

That was a bad one. No question we were the better team. We just didn't make the same kinds of mistakes as last week.
That's why the Deshaun one-legged win was so important to the program.

We never had a better loss or a worst loss. The last one is always the worst to me.
Nothing major wrong with our coordinators. Streeter was loosed to use more of the playbook Sat and Wess played that game the same way Venables did. He gave them underneath and tried to limit their long passes then stopped them at the goal line.
Both coordinators delighted me considering that it's the end of their first season.

It was the DUMBEST loss in Dabo's tenure, but not the worst.

Yes, ultimately it kept us out of the CFP, but we did not know that at the time.
And b/c it was the coots we seem to have forgotten how badly Notre Dame beat us. With two weeks to prepare. And everyone available.
But whatever. The coots will win one every 5 years or so. It's fine. We got outcoached and outplayed in all three phases that day, but mostly outcoached/outsmarted. I'm kinda glad Dabo's hubris caught up with him in a game that the fans care about.
But it wasn't Bama 2015. Or LSU 2019. Or OSU 2020. Those games meant something. And LSU and OSU were worse losses, IMO.

definitely looks like one of the more bone-headed losses that really cost us.
But in reality, to me, it looks more like it's just a bone-headed year / bone-headed overall management of the team and roster as opposed to just one game.
IMO, the ND loss was way worse. We got out azzholes pushed in man.

vs SCAR using DJ all the way - until the punt return fumble with 2 mins left. After all, we had been squeezing out W's for 2 years at home that way. The fumble ended that hope.
Dabo had a tightrope to walk all season. He knew as soon as DJ got benched, he would check out permanently. That left him with an underweight, inexperienced freshman QB WITH NO BACKUP behind him. He played the odds that DJ could powerlimp through the patsies we had left at the backend of the season - which he did - up until the miracle Coot 2nd half performance that NOBODY foresaw.

I would put this one down as the worst, though I'm trying

not to. Whatever is most recent seems biggest (all kids think Lebron > Jordan), but I still can't put anything above this one. It cost too much and was too unnecessary.
But next year is next year, and we might be looking back on this shrugging our shoulders.

"unnecessary" is a good word for it. Also, inexcusable.

But worst? Not in my opinion.
Yes, it costs us the CFP, but we would STILL get beaten, maybe even embarrassed in the CFP, even if CK played.
Dabo has work to do.

maybe more than a loss in the playoffs.
I wouldn't cede a loss in the playoffs, and there is the argument that nothing does as much good as a trip to the playoffs, regardless of win/lose. But that's another discussion.

After the seventh overtime of a 0-0 tie.
Or for an Ohio State loss. Humiliation is even better because “#### Ryan Day.”
I’d prefer the first but will take the second.
