Coots won their only conference championship in 1969 BUT

Nov 16, 2017, 3:04 PM

USuCk's record in 1969 was 7-4. 7-3 in regular season and then they lost their bowl game to WV
Not one team in the ACC in 1969 had a winning record

So not too sporty of a year other than winning the ACC title.

South Carolina has a tradition in football, but it just really sucks.

South Carolina's (rare) success in football is a result

Nov 16, 2017, 3:10 PM

of their opponents being down.

There's something in these hills.

They should make up T-shirts for that very special year

Everybody likes a champion.

I remember - winning the ACC title..............

Nov 16, 2017, 3:35 PM

in those days didn't mean a thing - nobody had a decent record.

The 1960s were awful for the ACC...

Nov 16, 2017, 3:37 PM

We only had an ACC team ranked in the final AP poll once the entire decade.

We played Auburn, Georgia, and Alabama that year

Nov 16, 2017, 3:39 PM

how about that for an out of conference schedule.

and they only played one ACC game on the road

Nov 16, 2017, 3:41 PM

Five Home ACC games.
AT Wake was their only conference road game. I've always wondered why that was.

Two observations

Nov 16, 2017, 4:09 PM

1) No Homecoming game that year?
2) 1-1 vs future ACC teams, 1-0 vs former ACC teams

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And 0-3 vs SEC...LOL***

Nov 16, 2017, 4:10 PM

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

oops 0-2 vs SEC...still winless!***

Re: Coots won their only conference championship in 1969 BUT

Nov 16, 2017, 4:18 PM

I attended Clemson in the 60's, graduating 1970. Those were bad year for the whole conference. I mean there were no black football players, and now a school couldn't even take in a dumb white football player with the 800 rule. It was hopeless.
