AAU coaches rule prep basketball in Chicago....

For the AAU coaches, it is a business and they are all on the take, something in which OP will not participate.

Must be easier to recruit kids to Clemson than people think.

I don't know. Do you? He seems to be having a harder time

recruiting than he had at Clemson given his records at both places, now that i think about it. It was meant as a joke

Clemson than most people think. Also I was hoping that you were joking. :)

That's a tough question given the low expectations people

Mar 15, 2013, 4:27 PM

have. We graduates, fans and football players know it as God's Country. It would be strange if kids from those same areas thought it wasn't simply because they are basketball players and not football players.

Hmmmmm. I don't know if "easier" is the right word, but I certainly think it's doable.

I'm going to say yes, I do.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that by far the main thing that makes it tough to

Mar 15, 2013, 5:04 PM

recruit at Clemson is the perception that is created by our lack of tradition.

I don't buy the excuse that most good basketball players are inner city kids who wouldn't want to come to a place in the sticks like Clemson. First, there are plenty of great high school basketball players that don't come from the inner city, or even near big metro areas. Secondly, while the idea that being in or near a major metro area is an advantage has some merit, many, if not most good basketball programs in those areas recruit very well far beyond their own backyards, sometimes getting most of their good players from quite far away.

Once we accept that there is no inherent reason that good basketball players would not come to Clemson, then the question becomes, "what do we have to do to attract better players and improve our program", and then, "are we willing to do it?".

It does beg the question, How good a recruiter was he here?

Or was it Shaka?

Re: It does beg the question, How good a recruiter was he here?

Mar 15, 2013, 4:25 PM

The big problem he has recuiting is that the previous coach had made all the AAU coaches mad and they blackballed DePaul

So..What You are Saying is We should swap coaches?***
