TCU Recruiting rankings last 5 years
Dec 31, 2022, 8:55 PM
|
|
2018 - 25th 2019 - 32nd 2020 - 23rd 2021 - 54th 2022 - 45th
Avg: 36
They had 19 transfer players transfer in the last two years.
I'm not a big "hit the portal" guy. However, I'm astonished at the offensive numbers they put up in their first year in the system.
So much I wondered who their OC was. Come to find out, it's Lincoln Riley's little brother: Garrett Riley. So, I guess I'm not surprised to see the numbers they are putting up.

I think that the newness might play a role in how successful they have been. Not a ton of film on them, doesn't really explain today as there is an entire year of it... but I think it's easier to hide/change tendencies early on vs. after you've run a scheme for a bunch of years.

I do think it's negated somewhat by the newness to the players too though.
I think it's just impressive that a first year coach, first year OC, not very highly rated recruits or transfers could go out and be top 5 the country in points scored per game (over 40 points per game).

Obviously, they are doing more with less this year. Also, they likely knew some good football players whose measurables keep them out of the upper echelon of four stars and five stars. But they can play football. Also, their players can hit home runs, they can convert a good play into a scoring play
For the past two years, especially we have no one that can break a 5 yard gain and turn it into a touchdown. Big plays are just too rare for us to win the championship.

It would not hurt my feelings for Dabo to open the bank and get their OC here next year.

Transfer players did not contribute. I heard Dabo say only players in portal were junk so no way they contributed.

Dabo has never said everyone in the portal were junk. When this first started most were not very great but since they are paying these players top dollar better athletes are going in. Do you have the money to pay this kind of money for a potential 1 year guy?

They have a lot of juniors/seniors. Full grown men. That helps.

Better coaching/scheme.....

..that's TCU.
Historically, we have out-athleted teams. That advantage is waning with teams we play in the ACC. There is now a very visible gap b/t us and teams like UGA/OSU compared to 2018--see last night's game. Any unbiased person can see this.
CLEM doesn't have to use portal much...use it lightly like BAMA. That's the winning formula for where the CURRENT CFB landscape is. We are slowly going to this, but stubbornly dragged our feet.
